Korea fat dissolving shots are injections that break down a small pocket of fat under the chin, along the jaw or on the body; they reshape one area and don't lower your weight. After weeks of reading threads, the question most people are stuck on is narrower: is my bulge the kind of fat they work on? At my clinic a doctor does the injecting, and same-day treatment is possible. I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, director at Delphic Clinic in Gangnam and a member of the Korean Society for Obesity & Aesthetic Treatment.
Questions about Korea fat dissolving shots come up often in my consultation room. The answer depends on your area more than on the product: the shots act on soft fat you can pinch, and they do nothing for loose skin or the shape of your jawbone.
- They suit a soft, pinchable pocket of fat in someone whose weight has been fairly steady.
- They don't tighten skin, and they aren't a weight-loss treatment.
- At Delphic a doctor does the injecting, and an English interpreter is on site.

4.7 · 260 Google reviewsI received ONDA lifting and Juvelook Skin treatment at Delpic Clinic. Before the procedure, Dr. K carefully examined my skin condition and explained everything in a kind and easy-to-understand way, which made me feel very comfortable and reassured. During the treatment, I could really tell that Dr. K was highly skilled, so I felt confident and at ease throughout the entire process. Overall, I was very satisfied with my experience. It’s definitely a clinic I would love to visit again.
I had a really great experience at Delphic Clinic. The staff were very friendly and made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in. They explained everything clearly in English and didn’t try to oversell unnecessary treatments, which I really appreciated. The clinic is very clean and modern, and the whole process felt professional and well-organized. Overall, I would definitely recommend this clinic, especially if you’re a foreigner looking for a trustworthy place in Korea.
If you're not sure which kind of fullness you have, take two daylight photos of the area, one from the front and one from the side, and send them on WhatsApp with the one question you most want answered.

What happens to the fat after the injection?
Many fat-dissolving injections are built around a bile-acid compound, often deoxycholic acid, sometimes mixed with phosphatidylcholine. Injected into fat, it breaks open the walls of fat cells. Your body then clears the debris over the following weeks, which is why the change is gradual and why the first few days often look puffier before they look slimmer.
Two things follow from that. And because each session treats a limited amount, people usually need more than one, spaced several weeks apart.
A systematic review of injection lipolysis in the Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery describes it as a treatment for small, localized fat deposits. That's how I'd put it to you: it contours one area and won't slim a whole body. If your interest is mainly the lower face, I've written separately about slimming a face with fat-dissolving injections.
Is the fullness you see actually fat?
In short, this question decides everything, and you can answer part of it at home. The shots only reach subcutaneous fat, the soft layer you can hold between two fingers. Fullness under the chin can also come from loose skin, a chin that sits back, or deeper fat and glands that an injection isn't meant to treat.
Run through this before you book anything:
Pinching tells you a lot, but the final read happens in person, when a doctor can feel the area and watch it move as you talk and swallow.
Face or body: which one are you asking about?
For body areas where firmness matters as much as fat, Body ONDA Lifting and Body InMode are on the menu too. InMode delivers RF energy and reduces some fat while firming, which can suit a softer area that an injection alone won't tighten.
When I tell people not to book them
Some people are better off skipping the shots altogether. That includes anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, anyone with an infection or active rash in the area, and anyone who wants to remove a large volume of fat. Liposuction is surgery, which the American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes as removing fat deposits from specific areas; I don't offer surgery, and if that's what your goal needs, it's a conversation for a plastic surgeon.
Tell the doctor before any injection if you take blood thinners or bruise easily, if you've had surgery or radiation in the neck, or if you've ever had trouble swallowing. These don't always rule the treatment out, but they change how carefully it has to be planned.
There are also times you don't need to come at all. If the fullness only shows up in photos taken from below, or you're still losing weight on purpose, give it a few months. The shots work on what's left once your weight is steady.
For loose skin along the jaw, the options I'd discuss are lifting devices such as Ultherapy or ONDA.
Risks and side effects to know
For most people the first days bring swelling, bruising, tenderness and some numbness in the treated area. Under the chin the swelling can be visible to other people, and the area often feels firm for a while as the body clears the fat. Some people barely swell; others look puffy for a week or more.
Less often, small lumps or uneven areas show up, or numbness lingers. Rare but serious problems are reported too. A systematic review in Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum gathered cases after deoxycholic acid injections under the chin and along the jowls, including nerve injury that makes the smile uneven, skin breakdown at the injection site and trouble swallowing, and set out how doctors should manage them.
Products sold for this purpose aren't all the same formula. Ask which product and active ingredient will be used for your area, and write it down so a doctor at home knows what was injected if anything needs attention later. I go through each effect in more detail in the side effects that online reviews tend to understate.
Will you be swollen on the flight home?
Possibly, yes. For many people swelling under the chin is at its worst over the first two or three days and settles over a week or two, so a session on your last day in Seoul means flying home at the puffiest stage. Booking the session early in your trip gives the swelling time to ease before you leave.
Because same-day treatment is possible, your consultation and first session can happen on one visit if the shots suit you. The clinic is open Monday to Friday 10:30 to 21:00 and Saturday 10:30 to 17:00, closed on Sundays, and it's directly connected to Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 3 on Line 9 and the Shinbundang Line. The address and a map are on the Delphic Clinic home page.
If you need several sessions spaced weeks apart, the later ones fall on another trip. The CDC's medical tourism guidance suggests arranging follow-up care at home before you travel, so tell your regular doctor what you're planning. If you want to know what the area looks like in between, I've laid out a week-by-week timeline from day one to week six.
Session numbers and spacing for your area are settled at a 1:1 consultation, with an English interpreter on site. Before that, send your travel dates on WhatsApp along with the one question still on your mind, such as whether one session can fit inside your trip.
Frequently asked questions
Does a fat dissolving injection hurt?
Most people describe a stinging or burning feeling during the injection that usually fades within minutes, followed by tenderness for a few days. If needles make you anxious, ask at your consultation what can make it more comfortable.
Can I exercise or drink alcohol right after?
Many doctors suggest skipping hard workouts, alcohol and saunas for a day or two, since heat and extra blood flow can add to swelling and bruising. Light walking is usually fine.
What if a firm lump is still there after I get home?
Firmness in the treated area often softens over several weeks as the body clears the fat. If a lump is painful, red, warm or growing, see a doctor at home promptly and show them the product name you wrote down.
Can I combine the shots with a lifting treatment on the same trip?
It can be done. Fat-dissolving injections and lifting devices such as InMode or ONDA work on different layers, so they're sometimes combined. Ask at consultation whether combining suits your face and in what order, since swelling from an injection can make skin harder to assess.
Do fat dissolving shots work on cellulite?
Not really. Cellulite comes from the way fat pushes against connective bands under the skin, and dissolving some fat doesn't usually smooth that dimpled texture.
