Acne Scar Treatment Korea: How I Smooth Pores & Scars with Potenza — A Gangnam Doctor's Honest Guide

Acne scar treatment in Korea is one of the most common reasons international patients walk into my clinic — and honestly, one of the trickiest to promise on. Old acne leaves behind pitted scars and stretched pores that no cream will fix, and every clinic online seems to promise flawless skin in one visit. That's not how skin works, and I'd rather tell you the truth.
I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, director at Delphic Clinic in Gangnam. Potenza Pore & Scar is one of my go-to tools for acne scarring and pores, and here's what it really does — plus who it genuinely helps and who I send elsewhere.
What it actually is — in plain language
Potenza is a radiofrequency (RF) microneedling device. Very fine needles create controlled micro-channels in the skin, and RF energy is delivered at a precise depth through those needles. That heat triggers your body to build new collagen exactly where acne scars have pulled the skin down. Because the energy is placed below the surface, the top layer is largely spared — which is why RF microneedling in Korea has become such a popular acne scar solution, especially for medium and darker skin tones.

Here's the honest part: Potenza is not a magic eraser. It won't remove very deep, tethered 'ice-pick' scars in one go, it won't shrink pores permanently, and it isn't surgery. It's a collagen-building, remodeling treatment — powerful over a course, but gradual.
Who it's really for
Potenza tends to shine for the following patients:
- Rolling and boxcar acne scars that make skin look uneven in raking light
- Enlarged pores, especially across the cheeks and nose — a common request for pore treatment in Korea
- Rough, bumpy skin texture and mild post-acne unevenness
- Patients with medium to darker skin who worry about pigmentation from an aggressive acne scar laser
- People who want real improvement but can't take two weeks off for downtime
And who I steer elsewhere: if you still have active, inflamed cystic acne, we treat that first — microneedling into active breakouts can worsen things. Very deep ice-pick scars often need subcision or minor scar revision alongside Potenza. And if you want zero sessions and instant results, no energy device can honestly deliver that.
How it compares — an honest comparison
Patients often ask how Potenza stacks up against other Korean acne scar treatments. Here's my general guide:
In practice I often combine tools — for example Potenza for the field of scarring, plus targeted work for a few stubborn deep scars. No single device wins every case.
Before and after: what's realistic
Realistically, most patients notice smoother texture and tighter-looking pores a few weeks after their first session, but the meaningful acne scar improvement builds across the full course as collagen matures — often for 3 to 6 months after your last session. Expect gradual softening of scar edges, not a flat wipe. Results genuinely vary with scar depth, skin type and how consistently you complete the plan.

What to expect — step by step
- 1
1. Free consultation
I examine your scars in proper lighting, map the types you have, and tell you honestly what Potenza can and can't do for your skin.
- 2
2. Numbing & prep
We cleanse and apply numbing cream for about 30 minutes so the session is comfortable.
- 3
3. The session
I pass the device over the treatment areas, adjusting needle depth and energy for scars versus pores. Full face takes roughly 20–30 minutes.
- 4
4. Back to your day
You'll be warm and pink for a day or two. Gentle skincare, sunscreen, no harsh actives for a few days — then back to normal.
- 5
5. Results build over weeks
Collagen remodels over the following weeks and months. We plan the next session about 4 weeks later.

How we do it at Delphic — and why it matters
Acne scar work is doctor-dependent — the depth and energy settings for a shallow rolling scar are completely different from a deep boxcar, and getting that wrong either wastes your session or risks the skin. At Delphic I set and adjust the parameters myself, on a genuine Potenza device, area by area across your face.

I came to Seoul worried about being overcharged as a foreigner, but Delphic was completely transparent — same price, clear explanation of my acne scars, and my skin genuinely looks smoother after two Potenza sessions. The English interpreter made everything easy.
How much does it cost in Korea?

Frequently asked questions
Does it hurt?
We numb the whole area for about 30 minutes first, so most patients describe it as a series of warm, prickly taps rather than pain. Deeper scar settings feel stronger, but it's very manageable — and I always adjust to your comfort as we go.
How long do the results last?
Because Potenza works by remodeling your own collagen, the improvement is long-lasting — the new collagen doesn't disappear. Scars that flatten stay flatter. That said, aging and new breakouts continue, so many patients top up once or twice a year to maintain smoothness.
How does it compare to a CO2 or fractional acne scar laser?
A fractional acne scar laser can be excellent but often means more downtime and higher risk of pigmentation on medium and darker skin. Potenza RF microneedling delivers energy below the surface via tiny needles, so it's gentler on the top layer and safer across skin tones — with strong results on rolling and boxcar scars over a few sessions.
Is there downtime?
Minimal. Expect redness and a warm, sunburn-like feeling for 1–3 days, sometimes tiny pinpoint marks or mild swelling. Most patients apply makeup after 24–48 hours and carry on with their trip.
How many sessions will I need?
For pores and mild texture, 2–3 sessions. For deeper acne scars, usually 3–5 sessions spaced about 4 weeks apart. Scars respond gradually, so patience across a full course matters more than any single treatment.
How much does Potenza cost in Korea?
See the price block in the article — Potenza Laser Full Face starts at ₩180,000 and Potenza Pumping Full Face at ₩200,000. You pay the same price as a local Korean patient; no foreigner mark-up.
