How Many Pico Laser Sessions Until You See It? Sugarrhaven's Before-and-After, and Why Photos Can Mislead
Sugarrhaven (@sugarrhaven) shared a side-by-side after a laser visit without naming the treatment. I use it to answer the question I hear most about pico toning: how many sessions it takes, and why photos differ so much.

“How many sessions will I need?” is usually the second thing people ask me about pico laser, right after the price, and often they're holding up someone else's before-and-after. I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, director of Delphic Clinic in Sinnonhyeon, Gangnam. I trained at Korea University Medical Center, and I consult and treat our international patients myself. Sugarrhaven's caption praises a side-by-side but names only “my treatment” and a laser hashtag, so I won't guess what she had. Instead I'll answer how many pico laser sessions I typically plan, why the same number gives different photos, how to space them from abroad, and who shouldn't start a course yet.

In her own words
The before & after says it all. I'm honestly so impressed with the transformation after my treatment at the clinic! Seeing the difference side by side makes it even more satisfying.
A before-and-after with no treatment named
Sugarrhaven's caption says the before-and-after “says it all”, but it doesn't say which laser was used, so this isn't a review of her session. I've written separately about this creator's earlier visits, including her first pico laser session and how I read a brightening side-by-side.
This page takes a different question: if you're considering pico laser after seeing posts like hers, how many sessions should you actually plan for?
How many pico laser sessions do I usually plan?
The honest answer to how many pico laser sessions you need is that pigment type decides it, not a standard number. PicoSure toning targets melanin with very short pulses, and fine, scattered pigment can look brighter after a single session.
Stubborn or deeper pigment usually needs a series. That's why our menu has both a single session and a five-session course. I suggest which one after seeing your skin, and I adjust the plan once I've seen your response to the first session.
- 1
Mainly dullness or uneven tone
A single session or a short series is often enough to judge whether it suits you.
- 2
Scattered freckles or sun spots
Usually a series; I review progress partway through rather than fixing the number upfront.
- 3
Melasma or mixed pigment
A slower, gentler course, sometimes combined with other options. Rushing it can make things worse.
Why the same number of sessions gives different photos
- Light and camera: a brighter room or front-facing light softens pigment on its own.
- Timing: right after toning, skin can look clearer for a few days before settling.
- Pigment depth: surface pigment shows change sooner than deeper pigment.
- Sun exposure between sessions can undo progress.
- Skin tone: darker skin often needs a more cautious setting, so change is more gradual.
When I compare before-and-after photos in clinic, I use the same light, distance and angle. If you're comparing posts online, look for that before trusting the difference.
Single session or five-session course: how I decide
If you're in Seoul once, a single session tells you how your skin reacts and gives a first lift in brightness. If you live here or return often, a course spaced 1–2 weeks apart is the more realistic way to fade stubborn pigment.
Price is part of that decision, and I've broken down what sets the cost of toning versus pico fraxel in my guide to pico laser prices in Korea.
Keeping a 1–2 week interval when you live abroad
On a two-week trip, two sessions are sometimes possible if your skin settles well after the first. I'd rather skip a session than squeeze one in while your skin is still irritated.
Pico laser prices per session and per course
These are example menu prices for PicoSure toning. Korean and international patients pay the same.
- Pico Sure Toning + 1 Session of Mask (First-visit trial)₩40,000≈ $30
- PicoSure Toning (Face) + Mask, 1 Session₩50,000≈ $40
- PicoSure Toning + Mask, 5 Sessions (Face)₩250,000≈ $180
VAT excluded · the same price for Korean and international patients · example menu prices for pico toning, not what Sugarrhaven had or paid · the number of sessions and any added laser are set at the free consultation.
Who should not start a pico course yet
- You've had a sunburn or a deep tan in the last few days.
- Your skin is irritated from retinol, peels or whitening products.
- You can't commit to daily sunscreen between sessions.
- You're pregnant or breastfeeding — tell me at the consultation.
- 1
Send a photo first
A daylight photo without makeup lets me tell you whether one session or a course makes sense.
- 2
Consultation and same-day treatment
A free 1:1 consultation with me, then same-day treatment if it fits. English and Chinese interpreters are on site, near Exit 3 of Sinnonhyeon Station.
Is this for you?
Who this combination genuinely suits
Signs it may be time
- Your skin looks uneven in daylight photos
- Freckles have darkened after summer
- You've seen a before-and-after and wonder if one visit is enough
- You live in Seoul, or visit regularly
A good fit if
- You have dullness, scattered freckles or sun spots
- You want a low-downtime laser you can fit into daily life
- You can return every 1–2 weeks, or accept one session as a test
- You'll keep up daily sunscreen between sessions
Not the right first step if: you've just had a sunburn or deep tan, your skin is irritated from strong actives, you're pregnant or breastfeeding, or you want a fixed number of sessions promised before your skin has been assessed.

“Please don't plan your sessions from someone else's photo. Send me your own, and I'll tell you whether one visit is worth it or whether you'd need a course.”
Questions patients ask me about this
How many pico laser sessions are needed for pigmentation?
It depends on the pigment type and depth. Fine, scattered pigment can brighten after one session, while stubborn pigment usually needs a series that I adjust after seeing your first response.
How often can I do pico toning?
PicoSure toning is usually repeated every 1–2 weeks. I extend the gap if your skin is still red or flaking from the previous session.
Can I see pico laser results after one session?
Many people notice brighter, more even skin after one session. Deeper or stubborn pigment changes more gradually, so one session is better treated as a starting point.
How much does pico laser cost in Korea?
At Delphic Clinic, PicoSure toning with a mask is ₩40,000 at the first-visit price, ₩50,000 per session regular, and ₩250,000 for five sessions, VAT excluded. International patients pay the same.
Why do pico laser before-and-after photos look so different?
Lighting, camera angle, timing after the session, pigment depth and sun exposure all change the photo. Fair comparisons use the same light and angle, taken weeks apart.
