Uneven Skin Tone, Before and After: Urooj's Side-by-Side, and How I Read a Brightening Result
Urooj (@sugarrhavenn) posted a side-by-side and called it a transformation. The post doesn't name the treatment, so here is how I read a brightening before-and-after, which options I weigh for uneven tone, and who should be careful.

A side-by-side photo is the most persuasive thing on social media, and the one I'm asked about most carefully. I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, director of Delphic Clinic in Sinnonhyeon, Gangnam; I trained at Korea University Medical Center, and I consult and treat international patients myself. Several times a week someone shows me a before-and-after on their phone and asks, “Can you do that for my skin?” Urooj's post doesn't name the treatment behind the side-by-side, so I won't attach one to it. What I can explain is how I read a tone and brightening result, which options I weigh, what they cost, and who should go slowly.

In her own words
The before & after says it all ✨🤍 I’m honestly so impressed with the transformation after my treatment at the clinic! 🥹✨ Seeing the difference side by side makes it even more satisfying.
A transformation post that doesn't name the treatment
Urooj's caption says the before-and-after “says it all” and calls it a transformation, with hashtags about skin and Korean skincare. It doesn't say which treatment was done. So I'll leave the photo as Urooj's own story and talk about the concern it raises: uneven, dull tone that people hope to see brighter.
How I read a brightening before-and-after
Before I judge any tone result, mine or anyone else's, I check four things. They tell me how much of the difference is skin and how much is the camera.
- 1
Same light
Daylight versus ring light can change apparent brightness more than a treatment does. Look for the same window, the same time of day.
- 2
Same skin state
Makeup, filters, and even freshly cleansed versus moisturised skin change how even the tone looks.
- 3
Same angle and distance
A slightly turned face catches light differently, which flattens or deepens shadows and spots.
- 4
The time gap
Tone work tends to build over several sessions. A same-day photo often shows calm, hydrated skin rather than pigment that has faded.
None of this makes a post untrue. It simply means your own result should be judged on your own photos, taken the same way each time.
Before choosing a laser: what kind of uneven tone is it?
“Dull” and “uneven” can mean freckles, sun spots, post-acne marks, redness or melasma. Each behaves differently, and melasma in particular can darken if treated too aggressively. I've written about how to tell freckles from melasma, and why it changes everything about the plan.
The two options I weigh for uneven tone
PicoSure Toning is a 755 nm picosecond laser that targets melanin in very short pulses while sparing the surrounding tissue. I use it for stubborn pigment and an overall more even tone, usually as a series with sessions 1–2 weeks apart.
GV Laser uses 532 nm and 1064 nm wavelengths and four modes, so it can address pigment and redness in the same visit. I reach for it when uneven tone comes with flushing or red marks. Sessions take 10–30 minutes, usually 2–4 weeks apart.
What tone treatment costs at Delphic
We publish our prices, and international patients pay exactly what Korean patients pay. Because Urooj's post doesn't name the treatment, these are example first-visit menu prices for this concern, not what was paid.
- Pico Sure Toning + 1 Session of Mask (First-visit trial)₩40,000≈ $30
- session 1 session of GV Laser (one mode) (First-visit trial)₩89,000≈ $60
VAT excluded · identical for Korean and international patients · example menu prices for this concern, not what Urooj paid · regular prices: PicoSure Toning + mask ₩50,000, GV Laser ₩120,000. Your plan is set at the free consultation.
The total for a course depends on the type of spot and how many sessions it needs. My breakdown of pigmentation cost by spot type explains why naming the spot comes before pricing it.
Who should go slowly
If you have melasma, darker skin that tends to mark after irritation, or you've just had a peel or a tan, I lower the energy and space sessions out. I explain the reasoning in why Seoul doctors go low and slow with melasma.
Taking your own before photo, and booking
- 1
Take your “before” at home
Bare face, daylight from a window, front and both sides. Then message us on WhatsApp with those photos and your travel dates.
- 2
On the day
A 1:1 consultation with me, then same-day treatment if we agree. English and Chinese interpreters are on site.
- 3
Finding us
A short walk from Exit 3 of Sinnonhyeon Station in Gangnam.
- 4
Aftercare
Sunscreen often, plenty of moisturiser, and no retinol, whitening products, scrubs or peels for a few days.
Is this for you?
Who this combination genuinely suits
Signs it may be time
- Spots that used to fade in winter now stay all year
- Concealer is doing more work than it used to
- Red marks linger for weeks after a breakout
- Your skin looks grey or tired in daylight photos
A good fit if
- Your tone looks uneven or dull even with makeup
- You have sun spots, freckles or marks left after breakouts
- You'd like a series of gentle sessions rather than one aggressive treatment
- You want the type of pigment named before anyone points a laser at it
Not the right first step if: you're expecting a one-visit result like a photo you saw online, you have a fresh tan or sunburn, or you can't avoid strong sun in the days after treatment.

“Take a daylight photo the way I described and send it before your trip. I'll tell you what kind of uneven tone I see and how many visits it realistically needs.”
Questions patients ask me about this
How much does skin brightening laser cost in Korea?
At Delphic Clinic, a first-visit PicoSure Toning session with a mask is ₩40,000 and a first-visit GV Laser session in one mode is ₩89,000, VAT excluded. Regular prices are ₩50,000 and ₩120,000. International patients pay the same as Korean patients.
Can you see results after one laser toning session?
Some people notice brighter, calmer skin soon after a session, but pigment usually fades over a series. Toning sessions are commonly spaced 1–2 weeks apart, and the number needed depends on the type of spot.
Are before-and-after photos of skin treatments reliable?
They can be, if both photos use the same light, angle and bare skin. Differences in lighting, makeup or filters can change how even skin looks, so compare your own photos taken the same way each time.
Is laser toning safe for melasma?
Melasma can be treated, but it needs low energy and careful spacing, because aggressive treatment can make it darker. A doctor should confirm it is melasma before choosing the settings.
Is there downtime after laser toning in Korea?
Most people return to daily life the same day. Mild redness or fine flaking can appear and usually settles within a few days, and frequent sunscreen is essential.
