How long does chin filler take, and will your chin still look swollen in the photos on your flight home?
Read this before you lock in your travel dates.
By the end you'll know how long the appointment runs, what each day of recovery usually looks like, how the two main methods differ, what review threads get right, and what decides the cost. That should tell you how many days to leave in Seoul, for your chin and your budget.
Hello, I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, Director and Lead Physician at Delphic Clinic in Gangnam. My background is Korea University Medical Center, and I'm a member of the Korean Filler Society and the Korean Academy of Aesthetic Surgery & Laser Medicine. Timing comes up again and again when visitors ask me about chin filler.
At Delphic the doctor does the injecting, and treatment can be done on the same day as your consultation. Interpreters on site speak English and Chinese, international patients pay the same price as Korean patients, and the clinic connects directly to Exit 3 of Sinnonhyeon Station.
I wrote this because people tend to build the trip around the appointment, which is the short part, and leave too little room for the swelling that follows it.
The injection itself usually takes 15 to 30 minutes, or about an hour for the whole visit once numbing is included. Your chin looks different as soon as you sit up. Swelling and any bruising usually take about a week to fade, though, and the shape is easiest to judge at around two weeks.
If you already have dates in mind, send a side-profile photo of your chin and your arrival and departure days on WhatsApp, along with the question that matters most to you: is that gap long enough? Putting the photo and both dates side by side also shows you how many recovery days you actually have.

What the appointment looks like, step by step
Most of the visit is preparation. It usually starts with a talk about what bothers you, then photos from the front and the side, then marking. After that comes numbing cream on the chin, which usually needs 20 to 30 minutes. Many hyaluronic acid fillers also contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, so the area keeps getting numbed as the product goes in.
The injection is the short part. A chin usually takes a few entry points, or a single entry with a blunt cannula, and 10 to 20 minutes of placement. Then comes ice and a look in the mirror. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that the results of filler can usually be seen right away, so you leave already looking different, just puffier than you'll look later.
The first thing I look at is the whole profile, more than the chin on its own. Where the chin sits relative to the lower lip and the tip of the nose decides how much projection suits you. It's also why the same amount can look right on one face and too much on another. I go into this further in my post on planning filler around facial proportion.
How long does chin filler take to settle, day by day?
In short, this is the usual course for hyaluronic acid filler in the chin. Treat it as a planning tool: people differ in how much they swell and bruise.
The day 0 shape can fool you in either direction. Fresh swelling can make the chin look longer or fuller than it will end up, and plenty of people worry on day 2 that it's too much. I'd ask you not to judge it before the second week.
Sleeping on your back for the first couple of nights keeps pressure off the area. A face mask resting lightly on the chin is generally fine. Tight chin straps and pressing on the filler are what you want to avoid.
How many days should you stay in Seoul after chin filler?
Here is how I think about it. The filler problem that needs a doctor fast, filler blocking a blood vessel, usually shows itself during the injection or within hours. Infection and firm lumps, when they happen, tend to appear over the following days. Swelling is about comfort and appearance. So I'd want you in Seoul for at least the first few days after the injection, and I'd rather it happened early in the trip than on your last afternoon.
Say you're 47, flying in from Vancouver for nine days, and you don't like how your chin disappears in profile photos. You land on a Thursday, and the airport bus stops near Sinnonhyeon Station. Weekday hours run until 21:00, so a consultation and injection on Friday is possible. Saturday hours are 10:30 to 17:00 and we're closed on Sundays, so if you want to come back in, plan for a weekday. That gives you about a week of the swelling going down while you're still in the city, and a settled chin by the time you're home.
If you only have three or four days, chin filler can still fit, and most people can fly comfortably the next day. The difference is that you'd go through the bruising stage at home. That makes it important to ask about follow-up before you book.
Verified Google reviews
4.7 · 260 Google reviewsI received ONDA lifting and Juvelook Skin treatment at Delpic Clinic. Before the procedure, Dr. K carefully examined my skin condition and explained everything in a kind and easy-to-understand way, which made me feel very comfortable and reassured. During the treatment, I could really tell that Dr. K was highly skilled, so I felt confident and at ease throughout the entire process. Overall, I was very satisfied with my experience. It’s definitely a clinic I would love to visit again.
I had a really great experience at Delphic Clinic. The staff were very friendly and made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in. They explained everything clearly in English and didn’t try to oversell unnecessary treatments, which I really appreciated. The clinic is very clean and modern, and the whole process felt professional and well-organized. Overall, I would definitely recommend this clinic, especially if you’re a foreigner looking for a trustworthy place in Korea.
To plan this around your own trip, mention on WhatsApp whether you've had chin filler before, roughly when, and which product if you know it. Then ask how many days you'd want between the injection and your flight. Old filler changes what can be added, so noting it in your first message saves you a surprise on the day.

Hyaluronic acid or Radiesse: two methods for the chin
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite among the main types of dermal filler. Both are on our menu: Radiesse is the calcium hydroxylapatite one.
Hyaluronic acid filler is a gel, and firmer grades are made to hold projection in places like the chin. Its main advantage for a first chin is that an enzyme, hyaluronidase, can dissolve it if the shape is off or a complication needs fast reversal. That reversibility is the reason I'd usually reach for it first.
Calcium hydroxylapatite is firmer and also prompts the skin to build some collagen around it. It can't be dissolved the way hyaluronic acid can, so it suits someone who already knows the projection they want. If you'd like to know exactly what goes into your chin, here's how to ask which filler brand is in the syringe.
Some chin worries need a different tool. Fullness under the chin is often fat, and filler would only add volume to it. For chin contouring we use FDA-approved deoxycholic acid injections instead. If what bothers you is thin, crepey skin rather than shape, a skin booster works on that problem, and my post on SkinVive for skin glow without filler explains the difference. Filler can't lift heavy sagging along the jaw either. That's a job for lifting devices.
Risks and side effects, and who should skip chin filler
Whether filler suits your chin is something I can only confirm by examining you in person. In general, the common reactions are the ones the US Food and Drug Administration lists for dermal fillers: bruising, redness, swelling, pain, tenderness and itching. For most people these fade over several days to a couple of weeks.
The rare serious risk is filler entering a blood vessel. The FDA warns this can block blood flow and damage skin, and in rare cases cause vision problems or a stroke. Watch for skin turning white or dusky, or pain that keeps getting worse instead of easing. These need medical attention right away, wherever you are.
As general medicine, it's usually better to wait if you have:
- an active infection, breakout or cold sore near the chin, or a dental infection
- pregnancy or breastfeeding
- a known allergy to lidocaine or to a filler ingredient
- an event or important photos within the next few days
You don't need a filler appointment at all if the fullness under your chin is fat, or if your chin sits back because of how your jaw and bite are built. In that case, an assessment by a jaw surgeon or orthodontist comes first, and we don't offer surgery.
Once you're home, keep a note of the product name and the amount used. Increasing warmth, redness or a hard, painful lump in the days after treatment are reasons to see a local doctor promptly. Any change in vision is an emergency. The US CDC's medical tourism guidance also recommends keeping copies of your records and arranging follow-up care at home before you travel.
Are chin filler reviews right about swelling and lumps?
Review threads tend to repeat a few claims. Some match what we know medically, and some don't.
“I was back to normal the next day.” Partly true. Most people go out the next day, but a bruise can still be visible a week later.
“It looked huge for three days, then it was fine.” Very common, and it describes the swelling curve in the table above.
“My filler moved.” Filler can migrate. It's linked to placement, amount and product, and it isn't the usual course.
“It was gone in three months.” Unlikely for a firm product in the chin. The softer feel once the swelling settles is often mistaken for filler loss.
What decides the cost of chin filler
A few things move the cost for your chin:
- Product type: hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxylapatite, and which grade.
- Amount: a small refinement takes less product than a receding chin that needs real projection.
- Scope: whether the chin is treated on its own or alongside lips or jawline in a single plan.
- Old filler: whether earlier product needs dissolving first.
- Your days in Seoul: a longer stay adds to the trip, though the clinic visit itself is short.
There's no foreigner surcharge: international patients pay the same price as Korean patients. You'll find the treatment menu on the Delphic Clinic English homepage. For a figure that fits your face, ask on WhatsApp what chin filler would cost in your case, and attach a side-profile photo.
What to send before you book anything
One message is enough to start: tell us the question that's holding you back, whether it's the cost, the swelling or the number of days. Interpreters on site speak English, and you can come straight up from Exit 3 of Sinnonhyeon Station. When you visit, I'll examine your profile and recommend the approach that fits it, even if that means less filler than you had in mind.
Frequently asked questions
Does chin filler hurt?
Most people describe pressure and brief stinging more than pain. Numbing cream and the lidocaine in many hyaluronic acid fillers help. The chin often stays tender to the touch, and sore when chewing, for a few days.
Can I fly the day after chin filler?
Generally, yes. Flying isn't considered a problem for filler itself. The reason to stay a few days is to be close to the doctor who treated you during the period when rare early problems show up.
How long do chin filler results last?
That varies with the product, the amount and your own metabolism. Firmer hyaluronic acid in the chin often lasts around a year, sometimes longer. Calcium hydroxylapatite also stimulates some collagen of your own.
Can I combine chin filler with a lifting treatment on the same trip?
Often, yes. The clinic offers one-day packages that combine lifting, toning and skin boosters. Whether to add filler on the same day, and in which order, is worth asking about in your consultation.
When can I wear makeup or exercise after chin filler?
In general, wait about a day before applying makeup over the injection points, and a day or two before hard workouts, saunas or hot yoga. Light walking is fine straight away.
