Is a Korean back acne treatment worth planning a trip around when your shoulders break out again every humid week? Read this before you block out your leave days. You'll know how many days a visit needs, what decides the cost, what reviews and forums get right, and which methods suit which kind of breakout, so you can tell whether one trip, a series of trips or a better plan at home fits your back and your budget.
Hello, I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, Director · Lead Physician at Delphic Clinic in Seoul, and a member of the Korean Society for Laser Dermatology & Hair. Visitors on short trips ask me about back breakouts often, usually after months of body washes that didn't hold.
Delphic is directly connected to Exit 3 of Sinnonhyeon Station on Line 9 and the Shinbundang Line, and we're open until 21:00 on weekdays. Treatment on the same day as your consultation is possible, and English and Chinese interpreters are on site.
I'm writing this because people tend to plan back acne the way they'd plan a facial, one visit and done, when the back usually needs weeks of care and most of it happens at home.
For most people, a visit for back acne fits into two or three days in Seoul: a consultation and first session early in the trip, then a day or two for redness to settle before the flight. Clearing usually takes several weeks of home care after that, and marks or scars need repeat sessions spaced weeks apart.
If you'd like to know which of those your back needs, send one photo of your back in daylight on WhatsApp with the dates you can travel, and ask the question that matters most for your plans: is this a one-trip problem or a series? A photo and your dates in one message keep the first conversation about your skin and your calendar.

Why back acne behaves differently from face acne
The skin on your back is thicker than facial skin and carries plenty of oil glands, and it spends the day under straps, seat backs, gym tops and bag handles. Heat, sweat and friction pressing on blocked pores are a big part of why the back flares in summer or after training, even while your face stays calm.
That changes how treatment works. A wash that rinses off in ten seconds barely reaches back skin; the American Academy of Dermatology notes that benzoyl peroxide works best when left on the back for two to five minutes before rinsing. Back breakouts also tend to leave dark marks, and DermNet describes this post-inflammatory pigmentation as taking months to fade, and more often affecting darker skin.
So the useful question for a trip is less about machines and more about proportions: how much of your back is active inflammation, how much is marks, and how much is true scarring. Each one runs on its own timeline.
Is it acne, or something that only looks like it?
Before any of that, it's worth checking the bumps are acne at all. Fungal folliculitis, an overgrowth of yeast in the hair follicles, often shows up on the upper back and chest as small, even-sized, itchy bumps that get worse in heat and after sweating. It doesn't respond to the antibiotics or procedures used for acne, which is one reason some people treat their back for years with little change.
Bacterial folliculitis, ingrown hairs and keratosis pilaris on the upper arms can also pass for back acne. A few clues point toward true acne: blackheads and whiteheads mixed in, bumps of different sizes, and a few deeper, painful ones.
How many days in Seoul does Korean back acne treatment need?
Plan around two things. The first session should happen early in the stay, and your skin needs a day or two before a long flight with a seatbelt and backpack straps pressing on it. As general medicine, redness after a peel or laser often settles within a day or two, and spots that were extracted or injected can stay tender for a few days.
Say you're 34, working in Singapore, with red bumps across your upper back and shoulders that flare after the gym, a few deep painful ones, and brown marks from last year. You can take Thursday and Friday plus the weekend. I'd want your consultation and first session on Thursday, which weekday hours until 21:00 allow even after a morning flight, and nothing on your back on Friday except a loose cotton shirt.
In a plan like that, the inflamed spots usually settle within days, while the marks fade over months, and the marks are where a series of trips earns its place. What happens inside one session is covered in what an acne clinic session in Seoul involves, and the address and hours are on Delphic Clinic's English homepage.

4.7 · 260 Google reviewsI received ONDA lifting and Juvelook Skin treatment at Delpic Clinic. Before the procedure, Dr. K carefully examined my skin condition and explained everything in a kind and easy-to-understand way, which made me feel very comfortable and reassured. During the treatment, I could really tell that Dr. K was highly skilled, so I felt confident and at ease throughout the entire process. Overall, I was very satisfied with my experience. It’s definitely a clinic I would love to visit again.
I had a really great experience at Delphic Clinic. The staff were very friendly and made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in. They explained everything clearly in English and didn’t try to oversell unnecessary treatments, which I really appreciated. The clinic is very clean and modern, and the whole process felt professional and well-organized. Overall, I would definitely recommend this clinic, especially if you’re a foreigner looking for a trustworthy place in Korea.
If your dates are already fixed, send them on WhatsApp with how long the breakouts have been going on and what you've already tried, and ask which day of your trip to book. Putting your flight times and your history in one message makes it easier for you to plan the first session around them.

What decides the cost of back acne treatment?
Back acne is closer to a body area than a face visit, and five things move the cost. The first is the size of the area: upper back only, the whole back, or back plus chest and shoulders. Then come how many inflamed spots need extraction or an injection, which steps are combined in one session, how many sessions you plan across trips, and whether marks or scars are part of the plan.
Foreigners pay the same price as Korean patients at Delphic. For a sense of how acne menu lines add up, see how I build an acne treatment bill from menu lines. For the figure for your own back, ask on WhatsApp and name the areas involved; the clinic's site says the exact cost is given to you one-on-one in a consultation.
What reviews say about back acne treatment in Korea
Forum threads about body acne repeat a handful of claims. Three come up most, and they hold up unevenly.
“One session cleared my back.” A single visit can calm the active, inflamed spots within days, which is what many of these posts describe. Keeping the back clear is a matter of weeks, because the next breakout is already forming under the skin.
“A drugstore wash fixed it.” For mild back acne this can be true. The American Academy of Dermatology describes over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide washes as able to help mild to moderate back acne, with daily use. It isn't true for deep, painful bumps.
“The laser erased my scars.” Lasers and related treatments improve scars over a series of sessions; they don't erase them. Many posts also call brown or red marks scars, and those often fade on their own over months.
Which methods fit which kind of back breakout?
Which of these suit your back, and over how much of it, is something to confirm at the consultation.
As general medicine, painful inflamed bumps are what an inflammation injection is for: a diluted anti-inflammatory medicine placed into a cyst usually flattens it within a few days. Lasers that target oil glands aim at the next breakout more than the one you have now, and peels help clogged pores and a rough surface. I've written separately about what acne laser treatment in Seoul fixes and what it won't.
Marks and scars need their own plan. Brown or red marks are pigment and redness, and many fade by themselves; pitted or raised scars are a change in the skin's structure and need treatment that rebuilds it. The way I approach the face, in planning acne scar treatment scar by scar, carries over to the back.
When a Seoul trip isn't the right fix for your back
Some backs are better served at home first. If deep, painful nodules cover much of your back, the AAD's position is that this kind of acne needs a dermatologist's help, and it often means oral prescription medicine, such as isotretinoin, with regular blood tests. That works best with a prescriber you can see every month, which usually means a doctor near where you live.
If breakouts started suddenly along with irregular periods or new hair growth, a hormone check at home comes first. And if you have a few scattered spots, a daily benzoyl peroxide wash for several weeks is worth trying before you spend leave days on it.
Risks and side effects to know
The common reactions are short-lived: redness, stinging or light peeling after a peel or laser, usually for a day or two, and tenderness where spots were extracted. An injection into a cyst can occasionally leave a small dent or a lighter patch, which often improves over months. Any inflammation, including the acne itself, can leave dark marks, especially in darker skin, and how quickly they fade differs from person to person.
As general medicine, wait if your back is sunburned or freshly tanned, if there's an open wound or infection in the area, if you've taken isotretinoin recently (many doctors hold off peels and lasers for a while afterward), if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you've reacted to a product or anaesthetic before. Which combination suits your back is confirmed together at the consultation.
After you fly home, a spot that turns hot, swollen and very painful, or a fever, needs a local doctor promptly. Keep a note of what was done and when, so whoever sees you knows what your skin has been through.
Keeping your back clear once you're home
What you do between trips decides most of the result. A benzoyl peroxide wash left on for two to five minutes, then rinsed well, is the backbone; it can bleach towels and shirts, so use white ones. The AAD also suggests loose workout clothes made of cotton or sweat-wicking fabric, washed after each use, and showering soon after you sweat helps too.
Skip harsh scrubbing and back brushes, which tend to inflame things further. Take a photo of your back every few weeks in the same light, because changes on the back are slow and easy to miss in a mirror. If you need a prescription, your doctor at home is the one to manage it.
When you're ready, send a daylight photo of your back on WhatsApp and the first thing you'd like to know, such as whether it looks more like acne or folliculitis. When you come in, a doctor examines your back and recommends the treatment that fits your skin and your dates.
Frequently asked questions
Can I do back acne treatment and still go to a jjimjilbang or sauna in Seoul?
It's wiser to skip hot rooms, saunas and long hot baths for the first day or two after a peel, laser or extraction. Heat and sweat on freshly treated skin can sting and keep the redness going.
Will I be able to sit through a long flight after treatment?
Usually, yes, once the first day or two have passed. Wear a loose cotton shirt, avoid a heavy backpack on treated areas, and bring a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturizer in your carry-on.
Do I need to stop my acne medicine before coming?
Don't stop anything on your own. Bring the names of what you use, especially retinoids or isotretinoin, because they affect whether peels or lasers are a good idea right now. Ask about it at your consultation.
How soon will the dark marks on my back fade?
Dark marks left by breakouts usually fade over months, and slower on the back than on the face. Sun protection helps, and treatments for pigment can speed things up for some people over a series of sessions.
