Korean Facial Review: How to Read Them Before You Book One in Seoul

My work centres on lifting, laser and anti-ageing care, and clinic facials are part of the everyday skin care we do.

Nearly every visitor who books a facial with us has read a Korean facial review or twenty first, and several a week tell me the reviews confused them more than they helped. I understand why. In this post I explain how I would read those reviews myself, which signals are worth your attention, and which ones you can safely ignore.

Why Korean facial reviews rarely agree

The phrase covers too many different treatments. One reviewer had an hour of massage at a spa; another had a medical-grade peel with extraction at a clinic. My comparison of the Korean facial at a clinic versus a spa explains that difference, and it is the first thing to check in any review.

The second reason is timing. A glowing review written the same evening and a disappointed one written three weeks later can describe the same facial. Both are honest, and neither tells you much on its own.

Spa reviews and clinic reviews are rating different things

Device names also get mixed up. Plenty of reviews call any water-based cleansing treatment a HydraFacial. If you want to know whether that matters, I explain it in Korean Aqua Peel vs HydraFacial.

Red flags inside a Korean facial review

• Identical phrases across several accounts, posted within days of each other.
• No treatment name at all, only the clinic name and a discount code.
• Nothing negative, not even the waiting time or the price.
• Heavy filters or ring-light photos taken minutes after the mask came off.
• Claims that one facial cleared acne, pigment or wrinkles for good.

The last one is the most important. A gentle facial improves how skin looks for a while. When a review claims far more than that, either the treatment was something else or the review was written for a reason other than honesty.

Five details that make a review worth trusting

Copy this list and check any review against it. Three or more ticks and the review is probably worth reading closely.

• It names the treatment, not just "a facial".
• It mentions the reviewer's skin type or concern.
• It says when it was written: same day, a week later, a month later.
• It mentions whether the quoted price matched the bill.
• It includes at least one downside, however small.

Photos under ring lights: what day-one glow hides

Right after a clinic facial, skin is well hydrated and slightly flushed, which photographs beautifully. That is real, but it is the peak. The fairer comparison is a photo in the same light a few days later.

When you take your own before photo, use daylight from a window, no makeup and the same angle. It will tell you more than any stranger's selfie.

Readers who should skip a clinic facial altogether

If you mostly want to unwind after a long flight, book a spa. If your main concern is sagging, deep pigment or active acne that needs treatment, a facial will make skin look fresher but will not address the cause, and I would rather point you to the right treatment than sell you a pleasant hour.
