Korean Glass Skin Treatment: What a Gangnam Doctor Actually Does to Get You There

I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, director and lead physician at Delphic Clinic in Gangnam. I hear the words Korean glass skin treatment several times a week, usually with a phone held up to show me a photo. Most people assume there is one machine behind that photo. There is not, and that is the first thing I explain. This page is how I break the look down in my consultation room, and how I actually build it.

What 'glass skin' means when a doctor looks at it

When I look at skin that people would call glass skin, I see three things. The pores are clear rather than filled with debris and sebum. The redness is calm, so the tone reads as one colour. And the surface is hydrated, so it reflects light smoothly instead of scattering it.

Notice what is missing from that list: a filter, a highlighter, or a single magic device. Each of those three features has a different cause, and each needs a different step. That is why a Korean glass skin treatment in a clinic is almost always a combination.

The three-step combination I build it with

   Clear the surface

   Aqua Peel uses AHA and BHA solutions to lift debris, sebum and dead skin from pores, then floods the skin with hydrating, soothing solutions. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes and has no downtime.

   Calm and hydrate from below

   LDM uses high-density ultrasound. I choose the mode for your skin: hydration, acne or redness. This is the step that makes the glow last longer than an evening.

   Seal it in

Why one session gives shine, not glass

After a single session most people leave with skin that looks noticeably fresher. That glow is real, but part of it is surface hydration, which fades within days. The deeper change, calmer redness and pores that stay clear, builds over several visits.

So I plan honestly. If you are in Seoul for a week, one well-timed combination session before a special evening makes sense. If you live here, or return often, a short series spaced a few weeks apart is where the real glass skin effect comes from.

When I'd tell you glass skin isn't the right goal

Some faces need something else first, and I would be doing you a disservice by selling a glow. These are the situations where I redirect people.

• Active cystic or deeply inflamed acne: that needs acne care before any glow plan.
• Pitted acne scars: hydration will not fill them, and a scar-focused treatment is a different conversation.
• Melasma or dense pigment: an even tone needs a pigment plan, not only a peel.
• Sagging along the jaw: glass skin on a loose jawline still looks tired. Lifting comes first.
• A reaction to a peel or active ingredient in the past few weeks: we wait until the skin settles.

A four-day Seoul plan for a Korean glass skin treatment

I usually suggest skipping saunas, very hot showers and strong exfoliating products for a day or two afterwards. They undo the calming step faster than anything else.
