I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, director and lead physician at Delphic Clinic in Gangnam, near Sinnonhyeon Station. I trained at Korea University Medical Center and I am a member of the Korean Academy of Aesthetic Surgery & Laser Medicine and the Korean Filler Society. My daily work is lifting, laser and anti-ageing care, and I perform skin booster injections myself.
Questions about Korean glass skin treatment side effects reach me most often by message, a few days before a patient's flight to Seoul or a few hours after their treatment. The worry is understandable, because "glass skin treatment" is a label for several very different procedures. This page separates them, so you know what to expect from each and when to ask for help.
Three kinds of glass skin treatment, three different risk profiles
Most plans combine two of these, so the side effects you notice are usually those of the strongest step. The combination I build, and why, is in my Korean glass skin treatment plan.
Peel-based facials: tingling, redness and the occasional breakout
Aqua Peel uses AHA and BHA solutions to lift debris, sebum and dead skin from pores. A light tingle during the session and some pinkness afterwards are expected, and they normally settle the same day. In congested skin, a few small spots can surface in the following days as pores clear.
Stinging that lasts, patches of raw-looking skin, or a rash are not normal and should be shown to the clinic. I cover the facial-specific details in Korean HydraFacial side effects.
Injected boosters like SkinVive: the marks the day after
SkinVive is Allergan's hyaluronic acid booster with lidocaine, placed into the dermis with small injections. That means small raised bumps at injection points, some swelling and redness are expected at first, and bruising is possible. These are the effects that most often matter for travel plans.
Because it is an injection, the rare but serious risks of any hyaluronic acid injection apply, including infection and blood-vessel complications. That is why it should be performed by a doctor, and why any warning sign below needs a same-day call. More about the treatment itself is in my SkinVive in Korea guide.
Ultrasound care with LDM: the gentlest of the three
LDM uses high-density ultrasound without needles or peeling, which is why I often use it for reactive skin or straight after another step. Mild warmth during treatment and a slight flush afterwards are the usual effects. If your skin is very sensitive, tell the doctor, as the mode and time can be adjusted.
Signs that mean call the clinic, not wait it out
- Pain that gets worse over the hours or days after an injection, rather than better.
- A pale, grey or dusky patch of skin near an injection point.
- Redness, heat or swelling that spreads, or anything that looks infected.
- Blistering, weeping or raw skin after a peel.
- Any change in vision after a facial injection. Seek urgent care at once.
Side effects are not the enemy. Unexplained side effects are. I would rather you message me about something small than wait on something serious.— Dr. Hyunji Kim, Delphic Clinic
Who I ask to wait before any glass skin treatment
- Skin that is sunburned, freshly irritated or recently peeled or lasered.
- Active inflamed acne, a cold sore or an infection in the area to be treated.
- Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding who is considering an injection.
- A history of reactions to hyaluronic acid, lidocaine or other injectables.
- Someone flying home the next morning who wants an injected booster.

I had a really great experience at Delphic Clinic. The staff were very friendly and made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in. They explained everything clearly in English and didn’t try to oversell unnecessary treatments, which I really appreciated. The clinic is very clean and modern, and the whole process felt professional and well-organized. Overall, I would definitely recommend this clinic, especially if you’re a foreigner looking for a trustworthy place in Korea.

Frequently asked questions
What are the common Korean glass skin treatment side effects?
It depends on the step. Peel-based facials can cause temporary redness and tingling. Injected boosters such as SkinVive can cause small bumps, swelling, redness or bruising at injection points. LDM usually causes little more than mild warmth.
How long do SkinVive side effects last?
Redness and small bumps at injection points usually settle within days. Bruising, if it happens, can take longer to fade. Anything that worsens instead of settling should be checked by the clinic.
Can a glass skin facial cause breakouts?
Occasionally, especially in congested skin, a few spots appear in the days after a peel-based facial as pores clear. Persistent or painful breakouts are worth showing to the doctor.
Who should not get a glass skin treatment?
People with sunburned or irritated skin, active inflamed acne or infection in the area, or a recent peel or laser should wait. Anyone pregnant, or with a history of reactions to injectables, should discuss it with the doctor first.
Can I fly after a glass skin treatment?
After a facial or LDM, generally yes. After an injected booster, plan a little margin before important photos or your flight, as small marks may still be visible for a few days.
