I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, Director and Lead Physician at Delphic Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul. I trained at Korea University Medical Center, and I'm a member of the Korean Academy of Aesthetic Surgery & Laser Medicine and the Korean Society for Laser Dermatology & Hair. My clinical focus is lifting, laser and anti-aging treatment, which is why pores land on my desk so often.
Forum threads and product reviews ranking each Korean pore minimizer are good at day one: how a primer feels, whether a toner stings, how a clay mask looks in a selfie. They almost never tell you which kind of pore you have, and that decides whether any bottle can help. "Which Korean pore minimizer should I buy?" is a question I hear often in consultation, usually from someone who has already tried several.
The short answer: no product changes the size of a pore. A salicylic acid cleanser or a retinol keeps oily pores clear, and a primer blurs them for a few hours. If your pores are stretched by sagging or edged by acne scars, the change you're after happens in the dermis, and that's clinic work.
Key takeaways
- No cream, toner or primer shrinks a pore; the right products keep pores clear or hide them for the day.
- Oil-and-clog pores respond to a routine. Sagging pores and scar-edged pores usually don't.
- Your pore type, not the brand on the jar, decides what's worth buying.
- At Delphic, a doctor, not a technician, performs the Potenza or Fraxel session, and treatment can happen on the same day as the consultation.
What Korean pore minimizer reviews leave out
Reviews leave out the cause. The American Academy of Dermatology lists several reasons pores look large: clogging, oily skin, acne, irritation from scrubbing or picking, and loss of firmness from sun damage and aging. Its guidance puts the last one plainly: pores look larger when skin sags.
A primer can't tell those causes apart. It fills and blurs whatever is there, which is why the same product gets five stars from a 24-year-old with oily T-zone pores and two stars from a 45-year-old whose cheek pores have turned into small vertical ovals, because the two reviewers have different pores.
Forum posts also tend to stop at week two. Pores driven by oil can look noticeably better within weeks of daily cleansing, retinol and sunscreen. Pores driven by sagging or scarring rarely move with skincare at all, and the people who have that type usually stop posting about products and start asking about procedures.
Three pore types, and which ones a bottle can reach
Most faces have a mix, but one type usually dominates the area that bothers you. This table is a working sketch, not a diagnosis.
If you see yourself in the first row, you may never need a clinic for pores. The second and third rows are where people spend the most on products for the least change. When sagging drives the pores, a lifting device such as Titanium can enter the discussion, and I've written about which Korean Titanium lifting reviews are worth trusting. If collagen loss is part of your answer, my piece on Juvelook, a collagen-stimulating skin booster explains one of the injectables that can sit alongside needling.
A mirror self-check you can do tonight
Five questions, a mirror and a window or lamp to one side of your face are enough. Write your answers down; they're more useful than a product list if you ever ask a doctor.
- Wash your face and wait 30 minutes with nothing on it. Are the pores you care about mostly on the nose and center of the face, or on the outer cheeks?
- Look at the shape. Round and dark-centered points toward oil and clog. Stretched ovals that seem to line up toward your jaw point toward sagging.
- Gently lift the skin of your cheek upward toward your temple with two fingers. If the pores shrink noticeably while you hold it, laxity is part of the picture.
- Run a fingertip across the area. Dips and uneven ridges around the pores suggest old acne scarring.
- Look at your routine honestly. Have you used one pore product daily for at least eight weeks with daily sunscreen, or have you rotated through several?

4.7 · 260 Google reviewsI received ONDA lifting and Juvelook Skin treatment at Delpic Clinic. Before the procedure, Dr. K carefully examined my skin condition and explained everything in a kind and easy-to-understand way, which made me feel very comfortable and reassured. During the treatment, I could really tell that Dr. K was highly skilled, so I felt confident and at ease throughout the entire process. Overall, I was very satisfied with my experience. It’s definitely a clinic I would love to visit again.
I had a really great experience at Delphic Clinic. The staff were very friendly and made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in. They explained everything clearly in English and didn’t try to oversell unnecessary treatments, which I really appreciated. The clinic is very clean and modern, and the whole process felt professional and well-organized. Overall, I would definitely recommend this clinic, especially if you’re a foreigner looking for a trustworthy place in Korea.
If question 5 is the weak point, fix the routine before you spend anything on a clinic. If your answers point to sagging or scars, send them on WhatsApp with one side-lit, no-makeup photo of the area, and use them to set up a 1:1 consultation with an English or Chinese interpreter.

Which pore minimizer ingredients actually earn shelf space?
Four things are backed by dermatology guidance. According to the American Academy of Dermatology's large-pore guidance, these are a salicylic acid cleanser to help unclog pores, retinol or retinyl palmitate at bedtime for oily skin, mild acne or lost firmness, daily broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, and makeup and skincare labeled non-comedogenic.
The Korean formulas many people buy often contain one of these in a light gel or essence, and a texture you like is a texture you'll keep using every night. What doesn't help is scrubbing, hot water and squeezing, which the same guidance lists as causes of pores standing out. Primers, by contrast, do their work on the surface and wash off at night. They're makeup, and judging them as treatment is where a lot of disappointment starts.
One caution from the same source: avoid retinol and retinyl palmitate if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
When does a pore problem need a clinic instead of a new product?
Usually when your self-check landed on sagging or scars, and eight weeks of daily use didn't move it. At that point the problem sits in collagen under the pore, and topical products don't reach it.
The tool I reach for depends on the pattern. Potenza is RF microneedling: fine needles carry radiofrequency energy into the dermis to trigger collagen remodeling around pores and shallow scars. The full-face Potenza session on our menu includes the N25 pore tip, and in our pore-and-scar package the tip is listed as unboxed in front of the patient. Fraxel and PicoSure are lasers we also have for texture and resurfacing; which one fits depends on your skin tone, scar depth and the downtime your trip allows.
The American Academy of Dermatology lists large pores among the concerns microneedling can diminish. For acne scars, its page describes 3 to 5 treatments performed every 2 to 4 weeks, and says full results usually take several months.
Our pore-and-scar package runs four sessions at four-week intervals, with Potenza sessions alternating with picofractional laser sessions. If you're flying in once, a single session is a start, not the result.
Side effects, and who shouldn't book pore treatment
Some people are better off not booking at all, or not yet. RF microneedling and fractional lasers are procedures, and they carry real side effects.
Expected after microneedling such as Potenza: redness (or darker shades on darker skin), swelling and a sunburn-like feeling that, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, usually disappear in a few days to a week, with makeup left off for 24 hours.
After a fractional laser: redness and swelling are also common, and how long they last can vary with the setting and your skin, so ask about it before you fix your flight.
Less common: breakouts after treatment, and post-inflammatory darkening, which is a particular consideration for medium to deeper skin tones and anyone heading into strong sun right after.
Rare but serious: infection, scarring or long-lasting discoloration, which the AAD says are more likely when microneedling is done by someone who isn't a dermatologist, or with at-home devices that pierce the skin.
Pore treatment isn't the right choice for you if:
- you're pregnant or breastfeeding (elective energy treatments are generally postponed);
- you have an active cold sore, infection or inflamed acne flare in the area;
- you've recently taken oral isotretinoin, since many doctors wait before needling or laser work;
- you're flying straight to a beach holiday the day after treatment;
- you expect pores to disappear. RF microneedling aims for a visible, lasting reduction that still fades slowly as collagen is lost with age.
You don't need to come in at all if your pores only show in a magnifying mirror, if they're mainly the oil-and-clog type and you haven't yet given one routine eight weeks, or if what bothers you most is shine rather than texture. In those cases, start with the ingredients above. Results vary from person to person, and only an in-person look at your skin decides whether a procedure makes sense.
What a pore visit in Seoul looks like on the day
Delphic Clinic is at 476 Gangnam-daero, Urban Hive Bldg 2F, with direct access from Exit 3 of Sinnonhyeon Station on Line 9 and the Shinbundang Line. We're open from 10:30 am, until 9 pm on weekdays and until 5 pm on Saturdays, and closed on Sundays, so an evening slot after a day of sightseeing is possible on weekdays.
English and Chinese interpreters are on site for consultation. A doctor examines your skin and performs the treatment, and if it suits you, treatment can take place on the same day. If your skin is dry or reactive as well as porous, a hydration step may be worth discussing too; I've written separately about how PDRN fits into skin repair. The Delphic Clinic English homepage lists the full treatment menu.
Bring your mirror-check answers and a list of what you've used on your face over the past three months, including any prescription creams, since recent retinoids or isotretinoin can change the timing.
When your dates are set, send that list and your travel dates on WhatsApp to arrange a 1:1 consultation with an English or Chinese interpreter at our clinic by Exit 3 of Sinnonhyeon Station.
Frequently asked questions
Do Korean pore primers actually shrink pores?
No. A primer fills and blurs the surface so pores look smaller while you wear it, and the effect washes off at night. It's makeup, not treatment, so judge it on how it looks and whether it clogs your skin.
Can pores go back to how they looked when I was 18?
Usually not completely. Pore size is shaped by genetics, oil production and skin firmness. Products can keep pores clear, and treatments that rebuild collagen can give a visible, lasting reduction, but aging continues afterward.
How many Potenza sessions do large pores usually need?
Several. The American Academy of Dermatology describes 3 to 5 microneedling treatments spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart for acne scars, with full results taking months. Our pore-and-scar package runs four sessions at four-week intervals; the doctor decides what fits your skin after examining it.
Is a Korean glass skin facial enough for large pores?
For oil-and-clog pores, an in-clinic exfoliation or hydrating facial can make pores look clearer for a while. For pores stretched by sagging or sitting inside acne scars, a facial works on the surface and rarely changes them.
Can I do pore treatment in Seoul and fly home the next day?
Many people can, since redness and swelling after microneedling usually fade within days. The bigger issues are sun exposure and makeup in the first 24 hours, and whether a single session is worth the trip. Tell the doctor your flight date before treatment.
