I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, Director and Lead Physician at Delphic Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul. My background is Korea University Medical Center, and I'm a member of the Korean Academy of Aesthetic Surgery & Laser Medicine, the Korean Society for Laser Dermatology & Hair and the Korean Filler Society. My daily work is lifting, laser and skin boosters, including the PDRN salmon injection.
I can't tell you which PDRN Korean pharmacy product to put in your basket. I don't recommend cosmetic brands, and a label can't show me your skin. The question still reaches my consultation room regularly, often from people in their 50s and 60s, or from a son or daughter shopping for a parent. The short answer: a pharmacy PDRN cream is a fair buy for dry, tight skin, judged as a moisturizer. It can't reach the layer where injected PDRN is studied.
In short:
- For dryness and tightness, a PDRN cream or serum from a Korean pharmacy is a reasonable purchase. Judge it by comfort, not by the number on the box.
- PDRN is a DNA fragment far heavier than what passes easily through intact skin, so a jar shouldn't be expected to do an injection's job.
- Crepey texture, fine lines that stay at rest and old acne scars are where an exam is worth more than another product.
- Never buy injectable PDRN to use on yourself or a parent.
- At Delphic, doctors perform treatments directly, international patients pay the same as Korean patients, and English and Chinese interpreters are on site.
What a Korean pharmacy sells under the PDRN label
Topical cosmetics: creams, serums, ampoules, balms and sheet masks with PDRN in the formula. Injectable PDRN is a different category of product, made to be placed in the skin by a doctor with a sterile needle.
On the ingredient list, PDRN often appears as sodium DNA. Most of it is extracted from salmon or trout DNA, which is why shelves full of salmon imagery all point to the same raw material. The large number printed on the front, frequently in ppm, describes the raw ingredient the way each manufacturer chooses to define it. You can't compare two of those numbers the way you'd compare two SPF ratings.
You may also see PN, or polynucleotide. A 2025 review in Pharmaceutics compares the two: both are built from DNA fragments, but they differ in chain length and molecular weight, and that difference changes how they behave in tissue. I've written separately about how the salmon injection and Rejuran differ if you're weighing those two treatments.
Can a PDRN cream reach the layer the research is about?
Not in any amount anyone has shown. Healthy skin lets molecules under about 500 daltons through fairly readily, according to the rule Bos and Meinardi set out in Experimental Dermatology in 2000. PDRN fragments are far heavier than that.
Most of the evidence for PDRN's repair effects comes from a different setting. A 2021 review in Pharmaceuticals describes PDRN acting through the adenosine A2A receptor to support tissue repair, with the studies largely in wounds and injected use, where the skin barrier is either broken or bypassed. Intact facial skin over 50 is neither.
None of this makes the jar useless. A good cream holds water in the outer layer, softens flaking and makes skin feel less tight, and PDRN can sit in that formula without harm. The point is what to expect: comfort and surface hydration, judged over two or three weeks of steady use.
If dryness is the main complaint, is a pharmacy jar enough?
Usually yes, when dryness is the whole story. Tightness after washing, flaky cheeks after a long flight, foundation catching on dry patches: a well-made moisturizer handles these, with or without PDRN on the label.
If a pharmacy cream keeps your skin comfortable through the afternoon, you don't need to come and see me. That's a good result, and your trip stays yours.
If you're reading reviews to pick between jars, I've also written about why Korean PDRN reviews split so sharply, which helps you read them for skin type rather than star count.
When the goal is texture, fine lines or old scars
The route of delivery matters more than the product at this point. Injected PDRN puts the material into the dermis, the layer where collagen and the skin's support structure live, and that's the setting the research describes.
What decides it in an exam is visible and touchable. Lines that disappear when the face relaxes behave differently from lines that stay. Skin that wrinkles like tissue paper under a light pinch on the cheek suggests thinning in the dermis, which a cream won't rebuild. Acne scars are sorted by shape: rolling, boxcar and ice-pick scars respond to different tools, and some need a device before any injection makes sense.

4.7 · 260 Google reviewsI received ONDA lifting and Juvelook Skin treatment at Delpic Clinic. Before the procedure, Dr. K carefully examined my skin condition and explained everything in a kind and easy-to-understand way, which made me feel very comfortable and reassured. During the treatment, I could really tell that Dr. K was highly skilled, so I felt confident and at ease throughout the entire process. Overall, I was very satisfied with my experience. It’s definitely a clinic I would love to visit again.
I had a really great experience at Delphic Clinic. The staff were very friendly and made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in. They explained everything clearly in English and didn’t try to oversell unnecessary treatments, which I really appreciated. The clinic is very clean and modern, and the whole process felt professional and well-organized. Overall, I would definitely recommend this clinic, especially if you’re a foreigner looking for a trustworthy place in Korea.
Our menu includes PDRN on its own as a 3cc salmon injection, and in combinations such as Potenza or Fraxel followed by PDRN 3cc for pores and scars. For the related polynucleotide treatment, Rejuran, the listed treatment interval is 2–3 weeks with about 1–3 days of downtime. Which of these fits, if any, depends on what the exam shows, and for some faces the answer is still a pharmacy cream. There's more on scar shapes in how I plan acne scar treatment scar by scar.

Buying for a parent: what changes after 60?
Three things: skin gets thinner and drier, it reacts more to fragrance and active ingredients, and more daily medications come into the picture. All three change what you buy and whether an injection is a sensible idea.
For a cream, choose an unscented formula and test it before the whole face gets it. A small amount behind the ear or on the inner forearm, once a day for two or three days, will show most irritation reactions. Introduce one new product at a time, so that if something stings you know which one.
For an injection, the medication list matters most. Blood thinners and some supplements make bruising more likely, and that isn't a decision to make in the clinic chair on the morning of a flight. Language matters too: our interpreters work in English and Chinese, so a parent who speaks neither will need a family member in the room.
PDRN injection risks, and who shouldn't have it
PDRN injection isn't for everyone, and the exam decides. Tell the doctor first, or postpone, if any of these apply:
- A known allergy to fish or to salmon-derived ingredients.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding; elective injections are generally postponed.
- Active infection, a cold sore, or inflamed acne where the needle would go.
- A bleeding disorder, or blood thinners you can't pause on medical advice.
The common effects after injection are redness, small bumps at the injection points, mild swelling and sometimes bruising, which usually settle over a few days. Less often, a bruise lasts longer or bumps take a week or more to flatten. Rare but serious: infection or an allergic reaction, which need prompt medical care wherever you are. Everyone's skin responds differently, and the result isn't predictable from someone else's photos.
Creams carry a smaller risk, but not zero. Contact irritation usually comes from fragrance, essential oils or preservatives in the base, which is another reason to patch test on older or sensitive skin.
A two-minute check at the pharmacy counter
A two-minute check at the shelf saves most regrets. Use this list on the box in your hand:
- What am I buying it for? Dryness and tightness: go ahead. Lines, texture or scars: buy it for comfort only, and plan an exam.
- Find PDRN or sodium DNA in the ingredient list. Ingredients are generally listed from highest to lowest amount, so its position tells you more than the front label.
- Look for fragrance (parfum) or essential oils near the top of the list; skip those for reactive or older skin.
- Pick the texture for the climate you're going home to: a richer cream for dry indoor heating, a lighter gel for humid summers.
- Take a photo of the ingredient list before you leave the shop. If anything stings later, a doctor can read it.

If you'd like a doctor to check before you choose between a jar and a needle, Delphic Clinic offers 1:1 consultations with English and Chinese interpreters on site, right by Exit 3 of Sinnonhyeon Station (Line 9 and Shinbundang Line). We're open weekdays until 21:00 and Saturdays until 17:00, closed Sundays, and treatment can happen on the same day when it suits.
Send two photos on WhatsApp: your parent's cheeks (or your own) in daylight, and the ingredient list of the jar you bought. I'll look at whether the jar can do the job or whether an exam is worth a slot in your trip. You can also see the full Delphic Clinic treatment menu.
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy injectable PDRN at a Korean pharmacy and use it at home?
Don't inject PDRN yourself or a family member, whatever a shop is willing to sell. Injection depth, sterility and handling a reaction all need a doctor. The PDRN products on pharmacy shelves for consumers are topical creams, serums and masks.
Is pharmacy PDRN the same thing as Rejuran?
No. Rejuran is a polynucleotide (PN) treatment injected by a doctor, and PN chains differ from PDRN in length and molecular weight. Pharmacy products are creams applied to the surface, so the comparison that matters is cream versus injection, not brand versus brand.
Can I keep using a PDRN cream after a PDRN injection?
Generally yes, once the injection points have closed and the doctor's aftercare period is over. Until then, keep the face simple and follow the instructions you're given on the day. Ask about your specific products before you leave the clinic.
I'm allergic to fish. Is PDRN a problem?
It might be, because most PDRN is extracted from salmon or trout DNA. Patch test any cream before using it on the face, and tell the doctor about the allergy before any injection so it can be assessed properly or avoided.
Can I get a PDRN injection on a Sunday in Seoul?
Not at Delphic Clinic, which is closed on Sundays. Hours are Monday to Friday 10:30 to 21:00 and Saturday 10:30 to 17:00, and treatment can happen on the same day as the consultation when it suits.

Korean Skin Booster Injection for Skin That Hydrating Shots Haven't Fixed
A Korean skin booster injection is not one product. Rejuran, the PDRN salmon injection, Juvelook and exosome boosters do different jobs, so the right one depends on whether your skin lacks water, repair or structure.

Rejuran Korean Skincare on a Short Seoul Trip, From the Serum on Your Shelf to the Injection
Rejuran Korean skincare means two things: serums sold under the Rejuran name, and the Rejuran injection, which places salmon-derived polynucleotide (PN) into the skin. Only the injection reaches the dermis, with 1–3 days downtime.

Korean Skincare Salmon DNA, From the Label on a Serum to the Line on a Clinic Menu
Korean skincare salmon DNA means PDRN or PN, DNA fragments purified from salmon or trout sperm cells. A serum stays mostly on the surface; an injection places the same ingredient family in the dermis, so the two do different jobs.
