Rejuran S: What It Can Do for Depressed Acne Scars, and Where It Needs Help

Alongside lifting and laser work, I see a steady stream of acne scar patients, and Rejuran S is one of the tools I use with them.

The question "Should I get Rejuran S or the normal Rejuran for my scars?" reaches me in messages several times a month, usually from people who have tried lasers and still see pitted marks in side lighting. Rejuran S is a narrower product than its name suggests. In this post I explain which depressed scars it suits, how it differs from Healer, and why I rarely use it on its own.

Which scars the S version is really made for

The S is usually read as scar, and in practice it means depressed scars: the dips and pits left after inflamed acne, chickenpox or minor injuries. These scars sit lower than the surrounding skin because the support underneath was damaged. Rejuran S places polynucleotide, derived from salmon DNA, into and around those areas to support the skin's own repair.

Mirror test: rolling, boxcar or icepick?

Stand beside a window so light falls across your cheek from the side. Stretch the skin gently between two fingers and watch what happens to each scar. This takes two minutes and makes your consultation far more useful.

Why S alone rarely finishes the job

Many depressed scars are held down by bands of tissue underneath. An injectable can support repair, but it cannot cut those bands or resurface the scar edges. That is why I often pair Rejuran S with Potenza, a microneedle radiofrequency treatment for scars and pores, or with subcision for tethered rolling scars.

S or Healer: the one question that decides it

I ask patients: "If I could change one thing, would it be the pits or the overall skin?" If it is the pits, Rejuran S is the version I discuss. If the skin feels thin, tired and uneven overall and the scars are mild, Rejuran Healer across the face usually makes more sense.

Some patients need both, and that is fine. In one visit I may place S into specific scarred areas and Healer more broadly. What I avoid is choosing S simply because it sounds stronger.

Scars I would not put Rejuran S into

• Active, inflamed acne: I treat the acne first, because new spots will keep making new scars.
• Raised or thick scars: these need a different approach entirely.
• Fresh red or brown marks that are still fading: these are often not true scars yet.
• Anyone expecting a scar to disappear after one session: I would rather you wait than be disappointed.

Sessions, spacing and price for Rejuran S

Scars almost always need a series. Rejuran sessions are generally spaced about two to three weeks apart, and when S is combined with other tools I plan the order so each step has time to settle. Small bumps after injection are normal and usually fade within one to three days.
