Seoul Skin Analysis: What I Actually Check in a Consultation, and How It Turns Into Your Treatment Plan

I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, director of Delphic Clinic, one minute from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 3 in Gangnam. I trained through Korea University Medical Center and I am a member of the Korean Academy of Aesthetic Surgery & Laser Medicine, the Korean Society for Laser Dermatology & Hair and the Korean Filler Society. My practice focuses on lifting, laser and anti-aging, and every treatment plan I make starts with the same thing: a careful look at the skin in front of me.
Patients from abroad often message us asking for a Seoul skin analysis, as though it were a separate test they can book and take home. I hear the question most days, usually from someone who has seen colourful skin-score images online and wants the same. What actually decides your treatment is a doctor's examination and conversation. This page shows what that involves, so you know what you are getting and how to make the most of it.
Score sheets versus a doctor's eye: what a skin analysis should give you
Photos and numbers can be interesting, but a number does not tell you whether a red patch is irritation, visible vessels or an active breakout. Those three call for very different treatments. Whatever pictures or tools are used, the analysis that decides your plan is the doctor's examination.
In my Korean skin treatment chooser I start from the complaint and match it to a treatment. A skin analysis is the step before that: it confirms what the complaint really is. Sometimes the concern a patient walks in with is not the one I would treat first.
Six things I look at, touch and ask in the first minutes
- 1
Surface and texture
Rough patches, enlarged pores, bumps and dents. I look from the front and from the side, because texture often shows only at an angle.
- 2
Oil and congestion
Where shine gathers, whether pores are blocked, and whether there are active spots or comedones.
- 3
Redness and reactivity
Whether redness is constant or comes and goes, and how quickly the skin flushes when touched.
- 4
Pigment
Spots, uneven tone and patches. Different kinds of pigment need different approaches, so naming them correctly matters.
- 5
Firmness and volume
How the skin moves when I lift it gently, where it has softened, and whether the issue is loose skin or lost volume.
- 6
Your history
Routine, medicines, past treatments and how your skin reacted, plus your schedule in Seoul. This often changes the plan more than anything I see.

From findings to a written plan
After the examination I put what I found in order. Calm and clean skin usually comes before anything stronger, because treating irritated or congested skin aggressively tends to backfire. Then I match each priority to a treatment and tell you what can realistically be done on this trip.
For many first-time visitors with dull or dehydrated skin and no major concern, a package is a sensible start. Our Seasonal Glow options combine a LHALALA Peel or MulTox with 6 minutes of LDM in hydration mode and a modeling mask.
| Seasonal Glow [1] LHALALA Peel + LDM (Hydration) 6min + Modeling Mask | ₩129,000$90 |
| Seasonal Glow [2] MulTox + LDM (Hydration) 6min + Modeling Mask | ₩179,000$130 |
A good skin analysis ends with fewer treatments than you expected, in a clearer order. If it ends with everything on the menu, it was a sales pitch.— Dr. Hyunji Kim, Delphic Clinic
Getting ready in ten minutes before you come
- Come with bare skin, or be ready to cleanse at the clinic
- Bring a list or photos of every skincare product and medicine you use, including prescription creams
- Note any treatments in the last six months and how your skin reacted
- Write down your two main concerns in order; it keeps the conversation focused
- Know your dates in Seoul, especially the day of your flight home
If you would like to organise your concerns before the trip, our website also has a self-check page at /diagnosis. It is a helpful starting point, but it cannot replace an examination, and I may reach a different conclusion when I see your skin in person.
When I tell you to skip treatment altogether
- Skin that is sunburnt, freshly peeled or reacting to a new product right now
- A lesion that is changing, bleeding or that I cannot confidently identify; it needs proper medical evaluation first
- A schedule with a key event or flight the next morning when the treatment you want has visible downtime
- Skin that already looks healthy, where more treatment would add little
- Expectations that a single visit cannot meet
Saying no is part of the analysis, not a failure of it. If you are still deciding where to go, my guide on how a visitor can choose a Seoul skin clinic lists questions you can send to any clinic before booking.
And if your plan ends with a facial, I describe what happens on the bed in my post on Korean facial steps, so nothing on the day will surprise you.

Before the procedure, Dr. K carefully examined my skin condition and explained everything in a kind and easy-to-understand way, which made me feel very comfortable and reassured. During the treatment, I could really tell that Dr. K was highly skilled, so I felt confident and at ease throughout the entire process. Overall, I was very satisfied with my experience. It’s definitely a clinic I would love to visit again.
I had a really great experience at Delphic Clinic. The staff were very friendly and made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in. They explained everything clearly in English and didn’t try to oversell unnecessary treatments, which I really appreciated. The clinic is very clean and modern, and the whole process felt professional and well-organized. Overall, I would definitely recommend this clinic, especially if you’re a foreigner looking for a trustworthy place in Korea.

Frequently asked questions
What happens in a Seoul skin analysis at Delphic?
A doctor examines your skin in good light, checks texture, oil, redness and firmness by looking and touching, and asks about your routine, history and goals. The result is a plan in order of priority, explained in English or Chinese.
Is the skin analysis consultation free?
The one-to-one consultation with the doctor is free. You are not obliged to book a treatment afterwards.
Can I have treatment on the same day as the analysis?
Often yes. If the treatment suits your skin and your schedule, it can usually be done the same day. If your skin is irritated or the plan needs time, I will say so.
Should I wear makeup to a skin analysis?
Come with bare skin if you can. Makeup hides redness, texture and oiliness, which are exactly what I need to see.
Is there anything I can do before I arrive in Seoul?
Our website has a self-check page at /diagnosis that helps you organise your concerns. It does not replace an examination, but it makes the consultation faster and more focused.
