Korean Skin Treatment: A First-Visit Chooser From a Gangnam Doctor

I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, director and lead physician at Delphic Clinic in Gangnam, one minute from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 3. 'Which Korean skin treatment should I get?' is probably the question I answer most often. It usually comes from someone who has scrolled through clinic menus with forty items on them and now feels less sure than before. My answer always starts the same way: tell me what bothers you most, and forget the treatment names for a moment. This page is that conversation, written down.

Start from the complaint, not the treatment name

Clinic menus list devices and brands. Your mirror shows problems. The chooser below connects the two for the four concerns I see most in first-time international patients.

Sagging along the jaw: Ultherapy

Ultherapy is an FDA-cleared device that delivers focused ultrasound energy down to the SMAS layer, the same layer a surgeon tightens in a facelift. It stimulates collagen, so the firming builds gradually rather than overnight. It suits early to moderate laxity, not heavy sagging that really needs surgery.

Treatment takes roughly 30 to 90 minutes depending on the area, and you can return to your day afterwards. How shot counts and areas are planned is explained in my Ultherapy first-timer guide.

Thin, tired-looking skin: Rejuran

Rejuran uses polynucleotide, derived from salmon DNA, injected into the skin to support repair of thin, sun-damaged or tired-looking skin. Patients usually describe the change as better texture, finer pores and a healthier bounce, building over weeks.

Small bumps at the injection points are normal for one to three days, which is why I place it early in a trip. The versions, doses and what to expect are covered in my Rejuran first-timer's guide.

Clogged, dull surface: Aqua Peel

Aqua Peel is the gentlest entry point on this list. AHA and BHA solutions clear debris and sebum from pores, and hydrating solutions follow. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes, suits sensitive skin, and has no downtime, so many visitors book it on arrival day.

Uneven tone and pigment: PicoSure Toning

PicoSure is an FDA-cleared 755nm picosecond laser that targets melanin while sparing the surrounding tissue. Toning is done at gentle settings, so most people return to their day straight away. Pigment usually needs a series, so a single session on holiday is a start rather than a finish.

Mixing treatments in one Seoul stay

Many visitors want two concerns handled in one trip, and that is often reasonable. The rule I use is simple: treatments with visible downtime go first, gentle ones go last.

When I'd send you home with nothing booked

A free consultation should be allowed to end with no treatment. These are the situations where that is my honest advice.

• Your skin is irritated, sunburned or in an active flare. We wait.
• Your main concern is heavy sagging that non-surgical lifting will not meaningfully change.
• You are pregnant or breastfeeding and the treatment you want is better postponed.
• The concern is small and you would be flying in only for it. A trip should be worth it.
