Weighing thread lift vs fillers for a jawline that has started to soften, and worried you'll spend your trip money on the wrong one? Give this a few minutes before you book anything in Seoul. By the end you'll know which problem each one fixes, what decides the cost, what reviews get right and wrong, and how much recovery to plan around a flight, so you can pick the option that fits your face and your budget.
Hello, I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, Director · Lead Physician at Delphic Clinic in Gangnam. My background is Korea University Medical Center, and I'm a member of the Korean Filler Society and the Korean Academy of Aesthetic Surgery & Laser Medicine.
Thread lifts and fillers are both on our menu, a doctor performs each treatment, and same-day treatment is possible. There's no foreigner surcharge, so you pay what local patients pay, and interpreters on site speak English and Chinese.
Thread lift vs fillers is a question I hear often in consultation, and the choice people most often get wrong is using filler to chase sagging. Extra volume adds weight to tissue that has already dropped, so the face can end up fuller without looking any higher.
Threads reposition skin that has descended; filler replaces volume that has gone. Many faces in their 30s and 40s show a little of both, and some need neither yet.

4.7 · 260 Google reviewsI received ONDA lifting and Juvelook Skin treatment at Delpic Clinic. Before the procedure, Dr. K carefully examined my skin condition and explained everything in a kind and easy-to-understand way, which made me feel very comfortable and reassured. During the treatment, I could really tell that Dr. K was highly skilled, so I felt confident and at ease throughout the entire process. Overall, I was very satisfied with my experience. It’s definitely a clinic I would love to visit again.
I had a really great experience at Delphic Clinic. The staff were very friendly and made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in. They explained everything clearly in English and didn’t try to oversell unnecessary treatments, which I really appreciated. The clinic is very clean and modern, and the whole process felt professional and well-organized. Overall, I would definitely recommend this clinic, especially if you’re a foreigner looking for a trustworthy place in Korea.
If you can't tell which one yours is, take one front photo and one side photo in daylight, send them on WhatsApp, and ask the single question that matters: is this sagging, volume loss, or both?

Has your face sagged, or has it lost volume?
Two things usually change in the lower face at the same time. The fat pads in the midcheek thin out and slide down, and the skin and the support tissue under it loosen. Lost volume shows as hollows: a flatter cheek, a groove under the eye, a shadow beside the mouth.
Sagging shows as weight sitting lower than it used to: a softer jaw edge, early jowls, a fold beside the nose that deepens when you look down at your phone.
A quick test you can do tonight: lie on your back and hold a hand mirror above your face. If your jaw line and folds look much better lying down, gravity is a big part of the picture, and that leans toward lifting. If the cheeks still look flat, volume is part of it too.
Threads move tissue; they don't add any
A thread lift places dissolvable threads under the skin through a fine needle or cannula, usually with local numbing. Cog threads carry tiny barbs that grip the tissue, so it can be lifted and anchored a little higher. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes thread lifts as a less invasive option whose lift is more modest than a surgical facelift, and that matches what I'd tell you to expect. If you want the detail on thread types, I've written separately about smooth versus cog threads and who each suits.
Threads tend to suit mild to moderate sagging along the jaw and lower cheek, skin with some thickness to it, and someone who wants lift without added fullness. They're a poor match for heavy, loose skin, for very thin skin where a thread may show, and for a face whose main problem is hollowness.
When is filler the better fit?
Filler, most often a hyaluronic acid gel, fills a space. It works well for a flat midcheek, a chin that lacks projection, or a deep fold where the tissue above it is still firm. Placed high in the cheek, it can also soften the lower face indirectly, because it restores the support the jowl was hanging from.
Under the eyes I'm more careful. Thin, crepey or dark skin there often does better with a skin booster than with filler, because gel under very thin skin can look puffy or bluish.
A mirror check before you choose
Use this with the lying-down test above. It won't replace an exam, but it tells you which question to ask.
Say you're 34, with soft jowls and a four-day weekend
Say you teach in Asia, you have a four-day weekend, and the mirror shows mild jowls while your cheeks are still full. Filler would add volume to cheeks that don't need it, so I'd steer away from it. I'd look at a thread lift for the jaw line if your skin is thick enough to hold threads, or at a lifting device such as Ultherapy or Thermage FLX if the sagging is only just starting.
Now flip it. Your jaw is firm, but your cheeks have gone flat and you look tired in photos. That face is a filler question, and filler usually asks less of your schedule than threads do.
For a short trip, timing matters. We're open until 21:00 on weekdays and until 17:00 on Saturdays, and closed on Sundays, so a Friday evening arrival still leaves room for a first visit. Airport buses stop near Sinnonhyeon Station, and we're directly connected to Exit 3.
If this sounds like you, tell me on WhatsApp your flight dates and whether you've had filler or threads before. Those two details change which option makes sense for a short stay.
What do thread lift and filler reviews get right?
Review threads repeat the same few claims. Some hold up medically and some don't, and I've gone into more of them in what thread lift reviewers get right and miss.
The lift dropped after two weeks. Partly true. The first days often include swelling and a tight, bunched look, and some of that early lift settles as it fades. A modest result after settling is expected; a lift that vanishes completely is worth asking about.
Filler made my face puffy. True when filler is used to chase sagging or too much goes in at once. It isn't a property of filler itself.
I could feel the threads. This can happen early, especially in thin skin, and usually settles. A thread end you can see, or a dimple that hasn't eased after a few weeks, needs a doctor to look at it.
Neither lasts. Both are temporary. Fillers usually last several months to over a year depending on the product and area, and threads dissolve over months.
What decides the cost of a thread lift or filler?
No single figure covers either one, because a few things move the cost for your face:
- The method. Threads, filler, or both together.
- How much. The number of threads, or how much filler goes in.
- How many areas. Jaw only, or jaw plus cheek or chin.
- Whether a lifting device suits you better. Sometimes the cheaper decision is to skip both for now.
There's no foreigner surcharge, so the figure you're quoted is the local price. If you're trying to read a filler quote, I've written about what a filler price in Seoul covers. For your own case, ask on WhatsApp what it would cost and name the areas that bother you.
How long is recovery from each, with a flight home?
After filler, swelling and bruising usually ease within a few days, and small lumps can take a week or two to soften. Most people go about their day straight after, and flying is generally fine.
After threads, expect more. Bruising, swelling, tightness and a pulling feeling when you smile or yawn usually ease over about a week. Common advice is to avoid opening your mouth very wide, facial massage and dental work for a couple of weeks. If threads are the plan, I'd rather you didn't fly out the morning after; leave a spare day or two. My first-timer's guide to thread lifts in Korea walks through those first days.
Who should skip both, for now?
- A firm lower face with mild hollows. You may not need either yet. Good sun protection and a skin booster can be enough for now.
- Heavy, loose skin at the jaw and neck. Threads struggle to hold it and filler adds weight. A surgical facelift opinion is the better starting point, and that's not something we offer.
- Thin, crepey under-eye skin. A booster usually suits it better than filler.
- Hoping for a dramatic change from one weekend. Neither treatment delivers that, and setting the bar there leads to disappointment.

Risks and side effects to know
The common reactions are temporary: bruising, swelling, tenderness and some unevenness in the first days. With threads, a pulling sensation and small dimples are common early and usually settle.
Less common problems are more serious. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, thread lift risks include infection, visible or palpable threads, dimpling, asymmetry and threads working their way out. The US Food and Drug Administration warns that filler can, rarely, be injected into a blood vessel, which can damage the skin or affect vision.
It's usually wiser to wait if you have an active infection or acne flare in the area, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a history of keloids, or are allergic to a filler ingredient or local anesthetic. If you take blood thinners, raise it at the consultation and don't stop them on your own.
After you fly home, rising pain, redness, heat or fever needs a local doctor promptly. Skin that turns pale or dusky, or any change in vision after filler, needs emergency care right away. Before you leave Seoul, ask what product and how many threads were used so you can show a doctor at home. Recovery differs from person to person, and whether either treatment suits your face is confirmed at the in-person consultation.
What to send before you choose
To start, one daylight photo of your face from the side is enough. Send it on WhatsApp with the question you actually want answered: threads, filler, or neither? When you come to us at Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 3, I'll examine your face and recommend the option that fits it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I have a thread lift and filler on the same day?
Often, yes. Our thread lift packages include threads together with 1cc of filler, because sagging and volume loss tend to appear together. Whether combining them suits your face is confirmed at the consultation.
Which lasts longer, threads or filler?
Both are temporary. Fillers usually last several months to over a year depending on the product and area, and threads dissolve over months. How long the effect holds varies with your skin and how much sagging there was to begin with.
Can filler be reversed if I don't like it?
Hyaluronic acid filler can usually be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
Does a thread lift hurt more than filler?
Most people find threads more uncomfortable during and after, because the threads are anchored under the skin and the area feels tight for several days.
Do foreigners pay more at Delphic Clinic?
No. There's no foreigner surcharge, so you pay the same price as local patients, and interpreters on site can explain treatments and prices in English or Chinese.
