“My face looks swollen every morning since I got here — is that sagging?” I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, director of Delphic Clinic near Sinnonhyeon Station in Gangnam. I trained at Korea University Medical Center, and I consult and treat international patients myself. I hear this most in summer, from visitors who arrive into Seoul's heat and humidity and suddenly don't recognise their jawline in photos. Vivi (@vivicaliani) noticed exactly that and chose Titanium 40kJ. This page explains how I tell puffiness from sagging, why a puffy face treatment in Korea is often a skin-firmness treatment rather than a drainage one, what titanium can and can't do here, and what it costs.

Puffy or sagging? How I tell them apart
A puffy face and a sagging face can look alike in a selfie, but they behave differently. Puffiness changes through the day; sagging doesn't. That single question — does it look better by evening? — tells me a lot.
- Puffy: worse in the morning or after salty food, flights or poor sleep; softens as the day goes on.
- Sagging: the same shape all day; the lower cheek sits lower, and the jawline blurs when you look down.
- Both: common in visitors over 30 — a little looseness that puffiness makes more obvious.
Why faces look puffier on a trip to Korea
Vivi blamed the humidity, and she's not alone. Summer heat, long flights, jet-lagged sleep and salty, delicious food all add up in the first days of a trip. None of that is a skin problem, and much of it settles on its own.
Where it matters is when puffiness sits on skin that has started to lose firmness. Then the face doesn't just look swollen; it looks heavier along the jaw. That's the part treatment can help with.
Why titanium 40kJ for a puffy-looking face — and where it stops
Titanium uses three wavelengths (755, 810 and 1064 nm) to support firmness and tone, and firming can often be felt right after a session. On a face that looks puffy and slightly soft, a firmer skin surface can make the contour look more defined.
- It firms skin; it isn't a treatment for fluid retention.
- It doesn't reduce fat — fullness from fat needs a different tool.
- Some early “tightness” mixes with mild swelling from the heat, so judge after a few days.
- If you go back to the same salt and sleep habits, morning puffiness returns.
For the full picture of the device, see my titanium lifting guide for first-timers. If fullness turns out to be fat rather than fluid, how ONDA works on a heavy face is the more relevant read.
Puffy face treatment in Korea: what the session involves
- 1
Consultation
I check whether it's puffiness, looseness or fat, ideally at a time of day when the puffiness is visible.
- 2
The laser
A sapphire contact cooling system chills the surface to −3°C while the laser works. The session takes 15–30 minutes.
- 3
Afterwards
Makeup is fine the same day. Wash with lukewarm water for 3 days and skip peels and scrubs.

When I wouldn't treat puffiness at all
- You arrived yesterday — give your face a few days to settle first.
- Puffiness comes and goes but your skin is firm; habits will do more than a laser.
- Swelling is sudden, one-sided, painful or itchy — that needs a medical check, not a lift.
- Your skin is sunburned or freshly tanned from the trip.
Keeping the result after you fly home
Sunscreen every day, enough sleep, and less salt in the evening do more for morning puffiness than anything I can offer. If you're planning around a flight, I've written about fitting 1–2 recovery days into a titanium trip.
Is this for you?
Who this combination genuinely suits
Signs it may be time
- Your face looks fine at night but swollen every morning
- Photos in Korea don't look like photos at home
- Your jawline looks softer than it did a year ago
- You'd like a doctor to tell you whether it's fluid, fat or skin
A good fit if
- Your face looks puffy and a little softer along the jaw
- You're over 30 and notice puffiness makes looseness more visible
- You want a short, non-invasive session during your trip
- You can allow 1–2 days for possible redness
Not the right first step if: your puffiness is purely temporary on firm skin, the swelling is sudden, painful or one-sided, your fullness is mainly fat, or your skin is sunburned or freshly tanned.

“Come in at a time of day when you look puffy, not after it's settled. It helps me tell fluid from looseness — and tell you honestly whether a laser is worth it.”
Questions patients ask me about this
How can I tell if my face is puffy or sagging?
Puffiness changes during the day and is usually worse in the morning or after salty food and flights. Sagging stays the same shape all day, with the lower cheek sitting lower and the jawline blurring.
Why does my face get puffy in Korea?
Summer heat and humidity, long flights, jet lag and salty food can all add up early in a trip. Much of it settles on its own within a few days.
Can titanium lifting help a puffy face?
It firms skin and improves tone, which can make a puffy, slightly soft face look more defined. It isn't a fluid-retention treatment and doesn't reduce fat.
What is the downtime after Titanium 40kJ?
Recovery is usually 1–2 days. Redness, warmth, discomfort or bruising can appear for about 2–3 days, and makeup is fine the same day.
How much is Titanium 40kJ at Delphic Clinic?
Titanium 40kJ is ₩340,000 on the first-visit menu and ₩500,000 regular, VAT excluded. International patients pay the same as Korean patients.
