How long does a thread lift last, and is it worth a flight to Seoul if the answer is only a year or two? Read this before you choose your dates. You'll know what decides the cost, which review claims hold up, how thread methods differ and how many recovery days to plan, so you can judge whether it suits your face and your budget.
Hello, I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, Director and Lead Physician at Delphic Clinic in Gangnam. My background includes Korea University Medical Center, and I'm a member of the Korean Academy of Aesthetic Surgery & Laser Medicine and the Korean Filler Society.
At Delphic, foreign patients pay the same price as Korean patients, English and Chinese interpreters are on staff, and our doctors perform treatments themselves. That matters when you have a few days and a question to ask in your own language.
People ask me about longevity often, and many judge the answer by week one. That's when swelling and fresh tension make any thread lift look its tightest.
The short answer: expect a visible lift for about a year in many faces, sometimes closer to two, followed by a gradual fade. Long-term studies are limited, so treat that as a general clinical estimate for planning.
If you already have dates in mind, send a front-facing photo of your jawline and your flight dates on WhatsApp, along with one question: how long does a thread lift last on a face like mine?

Why a thread lift fades
A thread lift holds tissue in two ways. Barbs or cones grip the tissue and reposition it, and the thread's presence prompts a healing response around it. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes the procedure as using absorbable, barbed sutures, so the mechanical grip has an end date.
Meanwhile, your face keeps aging. Gravity, bone and fat changes, weight loss and sun exposure continue whatever the threads are doing. A heavy jowl pulls harder on a thread than a light one, and very expressive areas move it thousands of times a day.
That's why two people with the same threads can get different lifespans. If you want to see how threads are used on one area, I've written separately about lifting a sagging jawline with threads.
How long do different thread methods tend to last?
The thread type changes how long the grip stays, although the face it sits in matters as much. These are general categories, and every thread on the market behaves a little differently.
- Smooth threads give little or no lift. They are used more for skin quality, so longevity is the wrong measure for them.
- Barbed or cone threads grip tissue and are the ones people mean by a lift.
- Material matters too. PDO usually dissolves sooner, while PLLA and PCL threads generally take longer to absorb.
Our menu lists thread lift packages built on mint threads, in 4-line or 8-line options with a 1 cc add-on. I've covered how threads lift a face without surgery elsewhere, so here I'll stay with the timing.
What do reviews get right about how long it lasts?
Review threads repeat a few claims, and some are closer to the medicine than others.
"It looked amazing, then dropped after a few weeks." Partly true. Early tightness includes swelling and tension that settle, so some drop is expected. Judge the result once your face has settled, usually after the first month or so.
"I got dimples, so it was botched." Often premature. A 2021 commentary in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery argues that dimpling which resolves within four weeks shouldn't count as a complication. Dimpling that lasts longer deserves a doctor's attention.
"Mine lasted five years." Don't plan a budget around that. Absorbable threads dissolve, and any lasting effect from the tissue response is modest and hard to measure.
What decides the cost of a thread lift?
The figure for your face comes down to a handful of things:
- Number of threads. Line count is the main driver, and more isn't automatically better for a light concern.
- Thread type. Different designs and materials carry different costs.
- Area treated. A jawline alone needs less than a jawline with midface.
- Add-ons. A filler or booster changes the total.
- Your repeat timing and trip. A result that fades after a year or so means another treatment and possibly another flight, so count hotel nights and the repeat when you weigh it up.
The thread lift price breakdown goes further on these factors. To get the figure for your own case, ask on WhatsApp what it would cost, with a photo of the area.
How many days should you stay in Seoul after a thread lift?
For many people, five to seven days after treatment is a workable plan, and ten or more is more comfortable if you have a big event soon after returning. The table shows what's usual, though healing differs from person to person.
The CDC's advice to delay air travel for 10–14 days is written for major surgeries, and a thread lift is a much smaller procedure, so that number isn't the rule here. Still, it notes that flying after surgery can raise clot risk, so mention any clot history before you book.
A trip worked through
Say you're 54 with early jowls and a lean face, landing Thursday night and flying home the following Wednesday. Same-day treatment is possible at our clinic and we're open until 21:00 on weekdays, so Friday could hold both your consultation and treatment.
That puts your flight on day 5. I'd consider that enough to travel but tight for a family wedding the following weekend. We close at 17:00 on Saturday and all day Sunday, so if you want to be seen again before leaving, Monday or Tuesday are your days. Ask at booking whether a recheck visit can be arranged.
The clinic is directly connected to Exit 3 of Sinnonhyeon Station, and our treatment menu and contact channels are on the Delphic Clinic English site.

4.7 · 260 Google reviewsI received ONDA lifting and Juvelook Skin treatment at Delpic Clinic. Before the procedure, Dr. K carefully examined my skin condition and explained everything in a kind and easy-to-understand way, which made me feel very comfortable and reassured. During the treatment, I could really tell that Dr. K was highly skilled, so I felt confident and at ease throughout the entire process. Overall, I was very satisfied with my experience. It’s definitely a clinic I would love to visit again.
I had a really great experience at Delphic Clinic. The staff were very friendly and made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in. They explained everything clearly in English and didn’t try to oversell unnecessary treatments, which I really appreciated. The clinic is very clean and modern, and the whole process felt professional and well-organized. Overall, I would definitely recommend this clinic, especially if you’re a foreigner looking for a trustworthy place in Korea.
When you message us, add a side-view daylight photo and the dates of any earlier threads or filler, then ask how many days you should leave after treatment.

Risks and side effects to know
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists these thread lift risks: swelling and bruising, infection, thread extrusion, pain that could persist, temporary difficulty opening the mouth, sensitivity to sun or bright light, and an unfavorable result.
For rough scale, the 2021 commentary cited above reports meta-analysis figures of swelling in 32.9%, dimpling in 11.7%, thread extrusion in 3.9% and infection in 3.1%, and cautions that the studies were not uniform.
As general medicine, people should usually wait or skip a thread lift if they have an infection or inflammation at the site, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners, or have a history of poor wound healing. Tell your doctor about all of these, and about autoimmune disease.
If something appears after you fly home, such as fever, spreading redness, worsening pain or a thread poking through, see a doctor promptly and don't try to pull or trim it yourself. The CDC advises confirming follow-up care at home before you travel and getting copies of your records, so note which threads were placed and how many.
Who shouldn't book a thread lift?
A flight to Seoul is hard to justify in a few situations:
- Your main concern is heavy sagging or a lot of loose neck skin. That's a conversation for a plastic surgeon about surgery. Cheek filler and threads both have limits here.
- Your concern is fine lines, pores or skin texture. Threads don't treat the skin surface.
- You want one treatment to last many years.
- Your skin is lax but the tissue isn't heavy, and you'd rather avoid threads. An ultrasound or radiofrequency lift, such as Ultherapy or Thermage FLX, may be the conversation to have instead.
For the cases where threads do fit, see my guide to lifting sagging skin with threads.
What should you ask before you book?
Copy this list into your notes and use it with any doctor:
- Which thread type and material would you use, and how many lines?
- How long do you expect it to hold on my face, and what would shorten that?
- What would make you tell me not to do this?
- How many days should I leave before flying?
- What should I avoid in the first weeks, and for how long?
- What should I do if a thread becomes visible once I'm home?
Your first message
One photo of your jawline is enough to start on WhatsApp, with one question: how many threads, and how many days? When you come, the doctor examines your face and recommends what fits, and that consultation is where to go through the details of your own plan.
Frequently asked questions
Does repeating a thread lift make the next one last longer?
There isn't good evidence that it does. Many people treat a repeat as a fresh lift and plan it once the earlier threads have absorbed and the lift has faded. Tell your doctor exactly what was placed and when.
Can I fly home the day after a thread lift?
Short flights may be possible for some people, but swelling and bruising are usually at their most visible in the first few days. Most travelers are more comfortable leaving at least several days, and anyone with a clot history should raise it before booking.
Can I have the treatment on the day I arrive?
Same-day treatment is possible at Delphic Clinic, and we're open Mon–Fri 10:30–21:00 and Sat 10:30–17:00, closed Sundays. Even so, leave yourself a few days in Seoul afterward instead of treating right before your flight home.
Do foreign patients pay more?
No. Delphic Clinic charges foreign and Korean patients the same price. Ask on WhatsApp what your own case would cost, with a photo of the area.
Can you feel the threads?
Sometimes, especially in the first weeks and in thin skin. The 2021 commentary reports visible or palpable threads in 1.8% in its meta-analysis figures, with higher numbers in some individual series. If a thread stays noticeable or pokes through, have a doctor look at it.

Thread Lift vs Fillers: Which Does Your Face Need, or Neither? Cost, Reviews and Recovery
Threads reposition skin that has dropped; filler replaces volume that has gone. Many faces in their 30s and 40s show some of both, and some need neither yet. Here's how to tell which is yours.
