I'm Dr. Hyunji Kim, director and lead physician at Delphic Clinic in Gangnam, one minute from Sinnonhyeon Station. I trained at Korea University Medical Center and I am a member of the Korean Filler Society and other Korean medical societies, with my daily work in lifting, laser and anti-ageing care. When international patients plan filler, how long does Juvederm last is usually the second question, right after the price.
I understand why. If you fly in for treatment, you want to know how long it will be before you need to come back. Patients ask how long does Juvederm last almost every time they choose it, and the honest answer depends on the area, the gel and your own body. Here is how I explain it in my consultation room, without promising a number your face may not follow.
Why Juvederm has no single expiry date
Juvederm is a family of hyaluronic acid gels, not one product. Some gels are softer and spread smoothly for lips and fine lines; others are firmer and are made to support deeper structure. Your body breaks hyaluronic acid down gradually, and how fast that happens differs by area and by person.
So when someone gives you one number for every area, be cautious. Which gel I choose for which area, and why, is explained in my Korean filler guide to areas, products and amounts. Here I will stay with timing.
Lips, folds, cheeks, chin: a typical timeline by area
These are general ranges commonly described for hyaluronic acid filler, not a promise for your face. I use them to set expectations, then adjust for the person in front of me.
Movement, metabolism and depth: what makes it fade sooner
- A very mobile area: lips and smile lines move all day, so the gel is worked on constantly.
- A small amount: a light, conservative first session will soften sooner than a fuller one.
- A softer gel: chosen for natural movement, but usually not the longest-lasting option.
- Your metabolism: people who exercise intensely or simply break things down faster often notice an earlier fade.
- Expecting day one to last: the first days include swelling, so the settled shape at two weeks is your real starting point.
Faded, or settled? Product often outlasts the look
Filler fades slowly, not like a switch turning off. The shape can soften while some product remains in the tissue. That is why I check before adding more, rather than topping up on a date.
Topping up on autopilot is one of the ways faces end up looking heavier over the years. If you are unsure what is still present, tell me honestly what you had and when, and I will plan around it.
I time a top-up by what I see in your face, not by the date on the calendar.— Dr. Hyunji Kim, Delphic Clinic
Planning top-ups when you live overseas
If you visit Seoul once or twice a year, plan reviews around those trips instead of booking a fixed refill. Use this simple routine.
- 1
Two weeks after treatment
Take front, side and smiling photos in daylight. This is your baseline.
- 2
Every few months
Take the same photos in the same light and compare them with the baseline.
- 3
When you notice a clear fade
Message the clinic with both sets of photos before booking anything.
- 4
At the visit
Ask for a check first. A top-up should be a decision, not a default.

When longevity shouldn't decide your filler
A firmer, longer-lasting gel in the wrong area can look stiff or lumpy. For lips in particular, I would rather choose a gel that moves naturally and fades a little sooner. If lasting as long as possible is your only priority, I may suggest an area other than the one you first asked about, or no filler at all.
Juvederm is also not the only option. How it compares with a Korean-made filler on our menu is in my guide to Korean filler vs Juvederm, and how to confirm which brand is in the syringe is in my guide to Korean filler brands.
These are our real filler prices, the same for Korean and international patients.

4.7 · 260 Google reviewsI received ONDA lifting and Juvelook Skin treatment at Delpic Clinic. Before the procedure, Dr. K carefully examined my skin condition and explained everything in a kind and easy-to-understand way, which made me feel very comfortable and reassured. It’s definitely a clinic I would love to visit again.
I had a really great experience at Delphic Clinic. The staff were very friendly and made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in. They explained everything clearly in English and didn’t try to oversell unnecessary treatments, which I really appreciated. The clinic is very clean and modern, and the whole process felt professional and well-organized. Overall, I would definitely recommend this clinic, especially if you’re a foreigner looking for a trustworthy place in Korea.

Frequently asked questions
How long does Juvederm last in the lips?
Lips usually sit at the shorter end, because they move constantly and are often treated with softer gels. Many people notice a gradual fade over roughly six months to a year, but individual results vary.
How long does Juvederm last in the cheeks or chin?
Deeper areas that move less and are treated with firmer gels typically last longer than lips, commonly around a year or more. It still depends on your metabolism, the product chosen and how much was placed.
Why did my Juvederm wear off so fast?
Common reasons are a very mobile area, a small amount, a softer gel, a fast metabolism, or expecting the swollen day-one look to stay. Sometimes the filler has not gone; it has simply settled.
Does Juvederm last longer after repeat treatments?
Some patients feel later sessions hold their shape longer, but I do not plan around that. I check what is still present at each visit before adding anything.
When should I book a Juvederm top-up if I live overseas?
Book a review rather than an automatic top-up when you notice the shape fading, ideally when you are already planning a trip to Seoul. If little has faded, the right answer may be to add nothing.
